Virtual Learning Day Plan
In the case of a virtual learning day the following learning expectations will be implemented. This would only occur if a virtual learning day is declared by the Superintendent.
- ALL students are expected to login to their Google Classroom for all classes. Students should also check their email throughout any virtual learning day.
- ALL teachers will assign a lesson, assessment, or other relevant learning experiences to each Google Classroom. ALL teachers must use their Google Classroom to post their learning assignment.
- Students should direct all communication to teachers, counselors or administration via school email, Google Classroom, or class Reminds. ALL PHS staff will monitor their Google Classroom and email throughout regular office hours (8:10-3:15 PM) during any Virtual Learning Day. Teachers are available to meet via Google Classroom or Google Meet if necessary and upon student request.
- Students are responsible for all work assigned on a Virtual Learning Day. All student handbook policies relevant to assigned work, homework, missing work, etc. apply to Virtual Learning days. Additionally all individual teacher classroom policies relevant to grading, subject to school and district grading policy, apply as well.
- ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY for all students on Virtual Learning Days. Teachers will record attendance based upon completion of assignments or assessments assigned to Google Classroom on a virtual learning day. EXAMPLE: If your math teacher assigns a worksheet to Google Classroom on a virtual learning day, your completion and submission of that assignment counts as your attendance. All relevant PHS attendance policies apply on virtual learning days. Attendance policies can be located in the student handbook which is linked to this newsletter.
- If students are unable, for whatever reason, to complete a Virtual Learning assignment, they should notify their teacher via email as soon as possible. If students are unable to complete a virtual learning assignment, and they provide notification as soon as possible, they will be provided adequate time to submit the assignment once they return to school. Student handbook policies regarding make-up work are in effect (copied below)
MAKE UP WORK (Purcell Public Schools Student Handbook (2022-23)
When a student is absent for any reason, all work must be made up. It is the responsibility of the student on the day of return to make arrangements to get all needed work. The student is permitted the number of days to make up work equal to the number of days absent, and that work is granted full credit earned. Long term assignments must be turned in on time with the exception of an assignment which is made during the time a
student is absent from school. Any exception to this timeline can be made only by the building principal, and only for extenuating reasons that can be substantiated. If a student is absent for three (3) or more consecutive days, please call the counselor’s office to make arrangements for picking up make-up work. Teachers are given
24 hours notice to put together necessary make-up work.
Lengthy absences which fall into other categories must be verified by a note or telephone call to the principal from a parent/guardian. The principal will then allow the student to ask his/her teachers for assignments in advance. When it is possible for teachers to produce lessons before the student absences occur, those assignments are due upon the student’s return to school. If the student receives the assignments upon their return, they would have one (1) day for each day missed to collectively turn in missed work. Any variance will be
at the principal’s discretion.
