Art with Ms. Beebe 🎨
We've been having a lot of fun this season in art. The most special piece of art so far this year was the Picasso Bouquets of Peace that 1st and 2nd graders made for someone special in the building for World Kindness Day. It meant so much to see everyone spreading the love to staff, friends, and even siblings! Students in all grades have been combining math with art while playing roll-a-dice games, then using those skills to create unique snowmen for our Winter Concert display. This last few months have been super busy, and I can't wait to see what 2025 has in store for us! I hope you and your family enjoy this holiday season and have a fantastic start to the new year!

Kindergarten
The kindergarteners have been so busy with new robots, typing, and even started simple block coding on code.org! They have been learning how to use the cardinal directions to guide robots and characters to where they need to be. They are even making their own robot craft to take home! (sorry in advance for the glitter🥺). I am so impressed with how far they have come since August!

First Grade
First graders have been busy working with Beebots in a more complex way this year! They are making mazes, moving around obstacles, and soon will be using new robots! First graders have also been block coding on code.org, typing, playing coding games on Kodable, and have started to create beautiful art work on Paint3D. Great job!

Second graders have been using new robots, typing, and even will soon learn some basic lesson on our new 3d printer! We have had fun watching it work for the past week and the things we have made are going into the prize bin! Students are doing awesome and I am so impressed with their abilities!

Physical Education with Mr. A.
K-2 students at Woodland have been learning about basketball in P.E. class. We have been practicing the skills of dribbling, passing, and shooting in class.
We also have spent time learning about Rebecca Lobo's basketball accomplishments while attending Southwick schools, and also learning about her contributions at UCONN, Team USA, and in the WNBA!
Students were amazed that she was from Southwick, and that she is now a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame!
After vacation, K-2 students will be learning about Sport Stacking in physical education class. Sport Stacking is an exciting sport where students use 12 specially designed cups to up-stack and down-stack in different patterns as fast as they can! Students can get a sneak peek of this sport if they choose to at speedstacks.com where they can view all of the tutorial videos for this sport.
I hope everyone has a fantastic vacation!
Stay active!

Music with Mrs. Peirce
Hello magical music makers!
We've really enjoyed getting ready for our Winter Concert and I know I say it every year, but I really believe this is the best concert we've had so far! I am so proud of every single student here at Woodland School. I hope you have a wonderful break from school and I will see you in 2025!

STEM with Mrs. Brown
Hello again Woodland families,
Fall has been a busy time here in STEM! Students in all grades have been learning about the changes that happen this season, including how and why leaves change color, and how animals migrate, hibernate, and adapt for winter. As we leave fall behind and start moving into winter we have also learned about evergreen trees and real life wild reindeer (aka caribou!).
2nd and 1st grade students learned about tessellations, which is when a shape is repeated to form a pattern with no gaps or spaces. Each student was then given an evergreen tree shape to decorate (2nd grade drew by hand and 1st grade marble-painted) and I assembled the individual shapes to great two giant grade-level evergreen tree tessellations. You might have noticed them on display during the winter concert!
I hope everyone has a wonderful winter break and I look forward to more STEM adventures in the new year!
