Principal's Message

Dear ASI Parents & Guardians:

As we begin Week 7, you will now receive a monthly newsletter for the months of October - May. Additional, event only newsletters will also be sent periodically.

During the month of October, we are celebrating Filipino-American History Month and Indigenous Peoples Day on October 13th. A "Shout-Out" to our Asian-American Leadership Club who is focusing this month on learning more about Filipino-American History during their club meetings.

Progress reports will be available for viewing on Parent Connect next week. They are not mailed home. Please remember this is a progress report, and not a report card. Most teachers do not allow make up of work completed during the progress report grading period, but there is still plenty of time for your student to improve grades if needed.

To provide additional support to their students, many of our teachers offer lunch labs. ASI has afterschool labs available Monday-Thursday from 3:20pm-5:20pm. Students who attend these labs must have work to work on. Additionally, support can be provided at Tutor.com is a service contracted by CUSD for ALL students 24/7.

Please continue to monitor grades on Parent Connect and your student's social media accounts on a weekly basis. This is very important at the intermediate/middle school level. It will help you to make sure that your student is making positive choices and is building positive relationships with their peers.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email with your student.

Have a Great Afternoon!

Mrs. Carter: ASI Principal

Children thrive on routine, and consistent school attendance provides beneficial structure and purpose. Kids feel good about staying caught up not only with the daily lessons and class activities, but also with caring for themselves by getting ready each day and learning how to interact with others in formal and social settings.

Evacuation Drill Evacuation Drill

This morning our students and staff participated in an evacuation drill to the soccer fields. With nearly half of our students new to campus each fall, it is important that everyone knows what to do in the event of an emergency. During a real situation, students and staff would wait for an announcement before evacuating, as this allows our administrative team to confirm the emergency and ensure that it is safe to proceed. Today’s drill was an opportunity for us to practice these important safety procedures together.

PARENT SQUARE PARENT SQUARE

Parent Square is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with your school(s) and the district. It provides a safe way for parents, district administrators, school principals, teachers, and staff to • Receive school and class information via posts • Send direct messages to teachers and staff • See school information in your preferred language with automatic translation • Share pictures and files • See calendar items • Sign up to volunteer • Schedule parent-teacher conferences • and much more . . . all in one centralized place

PS - Students have been introduced to a student version: Student Square in AB classes using Chromebooks.

Help Wanted: Career Day Speakers Help Wanted: Career Day Speakers

Career Day is fast approaching! This is a really exciting day for our students. This is an opportunity for our students to learn about a career in an industry sector they are interested in. Community speakers push-into classroom and share information about their careers. Students love the community connection and interaction with the speakers in a small group setting.

However, we are in need of a few additional parents and community members to sign up for Career Day and be willing to come share information about your career with our students. If you can, please help us with recruitment by reaching out to friends, family, co-workers, and community members to see if they are interesting in helping out too.

FALL DRESS UP DANCE! FALL DRESS UP DANCE!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28TH

Our Fall Dance is Tuesday, October 28th from 6:30pm-8:30pm in our tennis courts. This is our most well attended dance of the year. Our students love it! We hope your student will join us!

This is a dress-up dance, but students must be in dress code. Administration will begin dress code checks at 6:15pm outside the dance. Students will be dress coded without sweatshirts/jackets on. Shirts worn underneath must be in dress code. Students in shorts with a tutu over them will be dress coded without the tutu on. Shorts worn underneath must be in dress code. (5" inseam, hemmed evenly around.) Holes in clothes must have patches underneath, skin may not show. If a student is not in dress code, they can go home correct their dress and return to the dance as long as it is before 7:30pm. No students are allowed entry after 7:30pm.

If you have questions, please ask! More information will be sent home the week of the dance....

CLUB DAY #2: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 21st CLUB DAY #2: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 21st

Some of our clubs request that students bring items to share or use during club day. Ex: Baking Club. Please ask your student which club they are in and if they need to bring anything. Thank you!

COAT DRIVE COAT DRIVE

Our annual COAT DRIVE begins this month on Monday, October 27th in Math Classes. They will gladly take gently used or new coats, jackets, and sweatshirts to give to others this winter. Many of the items donated go to our local students. This is one of our first philanthropy opportunities for students to learn about the joy of giving!

DRESS CODE DRESS CODE

A few Reminders:

  • Dresses and skirts are to be worn no shorter than five inches (5”) above the top of the kneecap, but no shorter than mid-thigh.
  • No slippers will be allowed. This includes UGG slippers. (UGG Booties and Boots are allowed.)
  • Distressing is allowable. Holes on clothing must be patched from behind so that undergarments or bare skin are not exposed.
  • Undergarments must be covered at all times. This is for both boys and girls. Boys may not have undergarments that are longer than their shorts. Girls may not have undergarments that are not fully covered by their tops.

Most of our students are in dress code daily thanks to your support! With your help we will not need to dress code students or apply progressive discipline.

THANK YOU for your partnership and support!

STUDENT DELIVERIES: REMINDER STUDENT DELIVERIES: REMINDER

ALTA SIERRA DOES NOT HAVE A DROP OFF TABLE

Alta Sierra does not accept deliveries for students from any food delivery sources. (Grub Hub, Post Mates, Door Dash, Jimmie John's, etc.) Or any other vendors: Balloons, Flowers, etc.

However, we will never deny a parent access to your child. If you have a lunch delivery for your student, you may check in at the front office with an ID at 12:35pm-12:40pm. We will use the Raptor system to identify you as your student's parent and clear you to hand your student the lunch you provide them. You are welcome to provide lunch for your student only, but not their friends. Students are not allowed to share food items.

*Please inform grandparents and other approved family members of this policy if they deliver lunch to your student.

For the safety and supervision of our students, we ask that you please come into the main office and do not ask your student to meet you at the street or in a parking lot to get the lunch you are bringing them.

Parent Pick Up Prior to 3:15pm on Wednesday and Friday Parent Pick Up Prior to 3:15pm on Wednesday and Friday

We are in need of your assistance. We are having far too many students picked up early from school, especially on a Wednesday and a Friday. Every minute your student is at school is important! Every class is important! It is very difficult for our classroom teachers to have classroom interruptions with students going home early. It disrupts the flow of instruction and distract learners. Teaching time is lost getting students back on track and focused on their learning.

*Please partner with us and do your best to not pick your student up early on a Wednesday or a Friday afternoon. (We do not have Early Release on Wednesday and we do not have game day on Friday.)

BLOCK ASI BLOCK ASI

Block ASI is an award that gives very special recognition to students excelling in the domains of Mind, Body, and Spirit.

This honor is available to ALL students in 7th and 8th grade. We encourage parents to work closely with their students, throughout the school year, making it a part of their planning for their school experience. Whether or not the student receives the award, striving for it will enrich and enhance his/her educational foundation.

To earn credit in the Mind category, your student needs to participate on an Academic Team. We have many academic teams that will begin soon.

Block ASI Applications are available for students to pick up in the Kodiak Cluster.
