Profile of a Zephyr Spotlight: Whitehall High School
Incorporating the ten traits of the Profile of a Zephyr is foundational to each building in the Whitehall-Coplay School District. Each month, we will highlight a specific trait and how students throughout the district are exemplifying what it takes to be a successful Zephyr.
We are thrilled to celebrate our Whitehall High School Music Department as they represent our district this week in Baltimore!
Earlier today, our students stood on the historic grounds of Fort McHenry to perform the National Anthem and "America." This performance was a powerful demonstration of the Creative competency within our Profile of a Zephyr. By bringing these patriotic classics to life in the very birthplace of the Star-Spangled Banner, our students showed how imagination and artistic expression can connect us to our history and our community.
We are incredibly proud of these young musicians for their dedication to their craft and for embodying the traits that define a Whitehall graduate. A special thank you to our music faculty and staff chaperones for fostering this Creative spirit and coordinating such a meaningful experiential learning opportunity.
Please join us in applauding their hard work and "Zephyr Tough" spirit!
Zephyr Zoom In: Zephyr Elementary School
Here at Whitehall-Coplay School District, our classrooms are buzzing with energy as students take on hands-on projects, collaborative learning, and creative challenges. From STEM experiments to artistic endeavors, the spirit of "We Are Zephyrs" shines through in every lesson, reflecting our pride and commitment to excellence.
This month, we are proud to showcase the Fork Farm initiative, a project that perfectly embodies the Innovative spirit of our "Profile of a Zephyr" traits. Our 4th and 5th-grade students have transformed the traditional classroom experience into a high-tech agricultural hub. By utilizing vertical hydroponic systems, students are not just learning about plant biology; they are engaging in sustainable problem-solving. From the delicate care of Marigolds and Violas to the large-scale production of arugula, basil, and lettuce, our students are proving that innovation isn't just about new gadgets, but finding creative ways to grow and provide for our community throughout the school year.
The true beauty of this innovation lies in its inclusivity and social impact. We are thrilled to highlight the collaboration with our Life Skills classroom, where students showcased their artistic ingenuity by hand-painting beautiful pots for our flower donations. This project bridges the gap between STEM and service, as our harvests have reached both the local food banks and the residents at Fellowship Manor. By integrating technology with a heart for service, our Zephyrs are redefining what it means to be a modern learner, demonstrating that an innovative mind is most powerful when it lifts up others.
WCSD Staff Shout-Out
In this section, we are proud to shine a spotlight on the incredible educators of Whitehall-Coplay, as nominated by 12th grade students whose lives they've impacted. These teachers have gone above and beyond to inspire, support, and make a lasting impact, embodying the true spirit of "We Are Zephyrs".
Brooklyn Grochowski & Mr. Lotti
How has this faculty/staff member contributed to your personal growth or academic journey?
His engagement in learning and passion to teach. He was the one who taught me how to study as well. I never really thought studying was important until I started taking AP classes, so when I needed it I thought back to what he taught me 9 years ago.
What do you appreciate most about this faculty/staff member?
How much he loves his job. As a kid, I didn't notice it, but now that I'm older I see how much he did for his class out of love for his job. His morning notebook, reading corner, and coin chips really did make the difference in my learning. He kept it engaging and there was never a dull day in his class.
Benito Ortiz & Mr. Stefan
How has this faculty/staff member contributed to your personal growth or academic journey?
Mr. Stefan is the one who made me want to become a music teacher. Volunteering every other weekday with him, he gives me opportunities to teach lessons, songs, and even helps me improve my music skills, such as singing and music theory. He sneaks voice lessons in between classes in preparation for auditions, which is extremely helpful for someone who can't afford voice lessons at the moment. His dedication and passion for teaching are immensely commendable and inspired me to pursue Music Education in college.
What do you appreciate most about this faculty/staff member?
His dedication to helping me become a better performer and teacher stems from care, not obligation. He genuinely wants to see me succeed and helps whenever and wherever he can. Mr. Stefan also celebrates my accomplishments and always encourages me to strive for excellence.
Maroon and Gold Memories: Highlights from WCSD Family Night
On Thursday, April 9h, the school district held the 5th annual Family Night. The evening was another great success with a huge turnout of our school community and community at large interacting and enjoying all that is Whitehall-Coplay. Attendees were able to mingle with over 50 community partners from youth sports to local businesses, agencies and organizations. Our HS and MS clubs provided 10+ fun filled activities for all. This year's event was a true celebration of our Whitehall-Coplay school community and we couldn't be prouder of the success and support. Family Night has grown every year and has become one of the most attended and anticipated events on the school calendar. The evening embodies the ideal that "We Are One. We Are Zephyrs."
WHS National Honor Society Inducts Newest Members
On the evening of April 16, the Whitehall High School auditorium served as the backdrop for a significant milestone in the lives of 85 exceptional students. At 6:00 pm, family, friends, and faculty gathered to witness the official induction of these scholars into Whitehall’s chapter of the National Honor Society.
The ceremony was marked by inspiring moments and a clear commitment to the core pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. A special shout-out goes to Vihan, Cindy, Caiden, Rianna, and Bashar, who all did a fantastic job delivering their speeches and leading the pledges with poise and dedication.
To the 85 newly inducted members: your hard work and integrity have brought you to this stage. We look forward to seeing the impact you will continue to make on our school and community.
Congratulations to all the new inductees on this well-deserved honor!
WHS Interact Club Runs (& Walks) to Fight World Hunger
On April 11, 2026, Interact Club, led by Co-President Habib Leyos, held a two-mile Community Run & Walk on the Whitehall campus to raise funds for Heifer International, an organization that fights hunger worldwide through sustainable solutions by providing livestock and agricultural resources to families in need. The Whitehall Run & Walk was a huge success that saw over 80 participants and raised over $2500 for Heifer International. Interact hopes to make the Whitehall Run & Walk an annual event that brings together the Whitehall Community for a moment of spirit and unity while contributing meaningfully to the world.
WHS Leo Club Hosts Successful Blood Drive
Whitehall Students and Staff donated 22 units of blood on Friday April 17th . Since each unit can potentially save up to 3 lives, this is enough to save up to 66 lives ! For the School year- a total of 44 units of blood was donated, potentially saving up to 132 lives in the lehigh valley area.
The Leo Club would like to send out a massive thank you to every student and staff member who participated in the blood drive. Whether you were a first-time donor or a seasoned pro, your courage made a tangible difference.
We are very proud of the compassion shown by the students and staff of Whitehall High School.
Newsroom Next Gen: WCMS Students Attend Journalism Summitt
On Tuesday, April 14, ten members of the WCMS Studio Team attended, for the second consecutive year, The Journalism Summit held at Lehigh Carbon Community College. The event focuses on area high schools and middle schools who have clubs that focus on writing. These clubs include newspaper, yearbook, broadcasting, podcasting, and others. Students listened to a keynote speaker, networked with other students, spoke with local colleges and universities, and attended workshops specific to their interests. It was a tremendous opportunity for the Studio Team to learn, gain experience, and improve their craft.

Baseball
Season record of 14 - 5, currently ranked 1st for the 5A schools in the district. This season they have picked up big wins against some of the best in the area, including Parkland, Nazareth and Liberty who are all ranked at the top in 6A Schools.
Highlighting some individual players starting off with Junior Nikolas Christman who had an amazing game on the mound the other day, throwing only 76 pitches to end the game in just an hour and twenty minutes, he was inches away from a no hitter.
Senior Sudge Hoderewski has been red hot, hitting everything thrown at him and he’s also been one of the best defensive players we’ve ever had at Whitehall.
Senior Jack Lloyd has been throwing lights out and has been dominating other teams from the mound. Arguably only allowing 1 earned run the entire year, he’s maintained a sub 1 ERA all season which is ridiculous in the Valley against the best teams in the area.
Coach Schmitt has this to say - “ These guys have worked their tails off over the last year, especially during the off season, putting in the reps, spending the time in the gym, this isn't just about the last few months, this has been a long time coming. We have multiple 3 year varsity starting players who have given everything they have to the program. Our team sits w/ 5 losses, 4 of them losing by 1 run or less. This team can easily be 16 - 1, just need to keep working, and hope to make a solid run for the championship.”
The boys could be hosting an EPC game soon, they are still waiting for that date to be set, be on the lookout, and be sure to come out and support.
Softball
The team is currently 13 - 6 ranked 6th in 6A schools in the district. Coach Vivian had this to say after beating Central 13 - 3 on Monday - “The team is peaking and taking care of business at the perfect time.” The Zephyrs are being led by the BIG 3 Seniors Morgan Laub, Josie Schultz and Molly McFetridge who have been phenomenal, true leaders on and off the field. Junior Alyssa Dunbar had a big game last week, and sophomore Corynn Troxell has been heating up and on fire defensively and offensively. The team is now focused on one thing, and that’s Parkland on Tuesday.
The girls are looking to make a post season run, keep your eyes out for upcoming games, come out and support our Lady Zephyrs.
Volleyball
We have a record of 14 - 3, being ranked 3rd in the District 3A Schools, behind only Liberty and Emmaus. The Zephyrs started the season off with a state ranking that was taken away after a few losses early on. The guys are looking for redemption this post season, and have picked up a lot of momentum recently. One of the biggest reasons was the return of Senior Team Captain Cole Richards, who made his volleyball debut last week after recovering from his season ending injury during basketball season. Drew Sodl, the Zephyrs Libero, hit an impressive milestone of 1,000 career digs, the 2nd player in program history to do it!
This roster has every single piece of the championship puzzle, from our power at the net to our grit in the back row. The talent and the chemistry are already here. It’s simply a matter of our execution. If we fully commit and continue to outwork our opponents, there isn't a team that can stop us.
Track & Field
The regular Track and Field season has come to an end. Over the next two weeks, Whitehall is going to be hosting post season Leagues and District Championships on our home track. There will be 40+ schools that will travel here to compete w/ the best of the best.
