Principal Points
Dear Grown ups,
It is amazing to me that Quarter 1 is behind us and we are already into Quarter 2! We have all been working so hard at improving ourselves and showing growth on our academics and behaviors. Wow! We sure have been busy.
During this time of year I want to let you each know how thankful I am for the opportunity to provide a safe and educationally engaging school for your student(s) to attend. Each day I see them smile as they get out of the car or off the bus really warms my heart. Their faces say it all!
Please keep in mind we DO GO OUTSIDE nearly every recess so as the fall weather rolls in to send your child with a sweatshirt or jacket (when it gets even colder) to help them stay warm. Pants, socks and shoes (rather than sandals and shorts) is important part of being both warm and responsible each day. It really helps to dress in layers on these cool morning and warm afternoon days. Thank you so much for your help with this.
BE SURE TO LABEL ALL CLOTHING so if it is found it can find its way back to the owner rather than abandoned in the lost and found!!! If your students are missing any items please stop in to see if your student has anything in the lost in found.
Please remember you cannot get to JMS from Summit and are not able to cut throught the Summit Springs Apartment complex either. You have two options:
-Drive your student to JMS via the specified route of Lincoln to 8th Ave to Birch!!
(only left turns on 10th)
OR
-Drop off your JMS student at Summit and let them walk! This saves you time and allows your
JMS student to be responsible! Walking is a great thing!
Happy Thanksgiving,
Amber Boone
Principal Summit Elementary
Remember to fall back!!
Please turn your clocks back 1 hour
so you make it to school on time and ar enot late!!

- Also, talking to them using and explaining adult words is very beneficial.
- PRACTICE MATH FACTS (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
- Practice them daily!
- These foundational skills need to become immediate and easy to recall!
- Have your student count to/with you.
- Count anything, make up problems, flashcards, etc, measure, challenge and practice some more.
- PLEASE encourage children to work independently!
- They should be able to tie thier own shoes, get dressed, clean up after themselves and so on!
- These are life skills they must learn.
- Let them try and practice, practice practice by doing it themselves as well as helping with chores.
- Studnets need to learn that if they are persistent when frustrated they will be succeessful with practice.
- PLEASE encourage your student to engage and participate in school!
- Be on time and stay all day!
- Reinforce following school behavior academic, and attendance expectations.
- This is the student(s) job please encourage doing it well.
