ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING DURING THE SUMMER TERM

Due to the significant impact of COVID on this entire school year (as well as a large chunk of last year) the usual order to our Summer Term has been disrupted. As a staff body, we have looked very carefully at how we will determine end of year attainment and how we will inform you of this information.

We will utilise all learning, as well as formative and summative assessment information to create that picture. This is normal practice. The only difference being that for many children they have been working at home and school.

PARENT/ CARER CONSULTATIONS

We are planning to hold a consultation with teachers, as we did during the Autumn Term, via telephone. Teachers will be in contact with a letter and appointment time. In order to focus the conversation around learning and to help to keep to time, teachers have been asked to use a structured format which covers Maths, Reading and Writing progress and actions; as well as any other specific aspects relating to your child. This will allow the process to run smoothly and for timescales to work efficiently for everyone.

PLANS FOR SUMMER

Our intention is to make this Summer Term as enjoyable as possible for every child. This is even more important to us following the strange year. As this newsletter is being written, we are uncertain about whether we may be able to offer some of our usual events for leavers and other children.

What we can firmly say, however, is that Classes 1, 2 and 3 will be invited to an Farming Education Day at the Garrowby Estate in June; we have small bikes in school next week in Class 1 and we are holding an extended Outdoor Adventure and Team building day with the support of Taff Bowles, former Visits and Outdoor Learning Adviser from East Riding.

We are also working very hard to make sure that we seize every opportunity to be outside to help with our learning. The school is alive with sport and physical pursuits and our Gardening Club has been a huge hit this week. Look out for more opportunities for your child as we progress further into the term.

LISTENING TO YOU

We have been working hard to review our Relationships and Sex Education Policy. It is currently in draft form and we have asked our pupils what they would like to learn about. As part of this process we would like know if you have any comments, questions or queries about any aspect of the draft policy. Please click the link here if you would like to read it and add your views. N.B. This consultation will close on 7th May. Many thanks.

COVID

We have decided to move Class 2 back into the main hall for lunch. They are distanced from the other children and we felt that this allows staff to have a break, as well as allowing them to see the older children from a distance. It also allows everyone to re-acquaint themselves with lunch time norms.

Now is a timely reminder that if you have to enter the school grounds you should be wearing a face covering please unless you are exempt. Many thanks.
