From our new building entryway and collaborative learning spaces to additional arrival and dismissal options and a brand-new outdoor classroom, our school community is growing and evolving in the best ways. We’re also thrilled to welcome several new staff members to our team! With all these positive changes, one thing remains the same: our commitment to your child’s growth, learning, and success. Building Updates!

It’s been a busy summer of construction and improvements at Farley! We’re excited to unveil three new Collaborative Spaces designed for flexible use by staff and students. Our special education areas have also been completely renovated with brand new, thoughtfully designed spaces. Outside, the building got a facelift with a newly stained entrance canopy, a newly constructed accessible sidewalk leading to the cafeteria and gym, and fresh sidewalks around the perimeter of the parking lot for walker and bike riders!

Updated Arrival & Dismissal Options

This year we will have new options for arrival and dismissal. Students will be allowed to walk or ride a bike to and from school! Following the Safe Routes to School Survey conducted last spring, the district has made several improvements to our campus to ensure students have a safe route to school. These updates include new sidewalks, clearly marked crosswalks, improved signage, and crossing guards stationed at three key locations. In addition, to help with the flow of traffic in and out of our parking lot during arrival and dismissal, the district has created a new, separate exit out of the parking lot. You can view these enhancements on the map below.

To help us prepare for a smooth and safe arrival and dismissal each day, we’d like to know how your child will typically travel to and from school. Your feedback will allow us to assign staff strategically and ensure student safety across all areas. Please take a moment to complete the attached survey. A detailed description of all options is listed in the survey. Thank you!

Registration

Even if we know your child is returning to Farley this school year, you will still need to complete the online registration. This is what will trigger your child being placed on a class list for the 25-26 school year. If you have not completed the online registration process, we would appreciate you taking a few moments to complete this today.

Morning Arrival and Breakfast

The school doors open at 8:15 each day for breakfast, and students are allowed to enter their classrooms at 8:25. School officially begins at 8:45 each day. It is important that students are here on time because learning begins right away. Students who arrive to their classrooms after 8:45 will be counted tardy unless they arrive on a late bus.

Breakfast is served until 8:40 each day. Students arriving on a late bus will have the option of picking up a quick breakfast item, but students being dropped off by a car need to enter the cafeteria before 8:40 in order to get breakfast.

Thank you for helping your child have a great start to the day!

Attendance

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
  • Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
  • Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
  • Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
  • Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves.

Start building this habit now so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.

Important Attendance Definitions:

  • Tardy - arriving after 8:45 am

  • Early pick up - leaving before 3:30 pm

  • Unexcused Absences - absent without reasonable justification

According to Kansas law (K.S.A. 72-1113) a student is truant if they have missed the following without legitimate excuse:

  • Three (3) consecutive days

  • Five (5) unexcused absences in a semester

  • Seven (7) unexcused absences in a school year

If a student has excessive excused absences (more than 10), a doctor’s note will be required for it to be excused. Another option is that you can bring your child to the school clinic and the school nurse can determine if your child should stay home.
