Torrey HillIntermediate School Newsletter for November 2020

A Note From The Principal- Mrs. Conover

As we embark upon the beginning of the second quarter of our school year, I would like to take time to say thank you for your incredible patience with us this year. We all seem to be part of a wild and crazy ride this year in trying to find the best learning environment for everyone. This is a tough task but we want you all to know, we are planning, experimenting, researching and digging real deep to do what is best for kids. We love our Lake Fenton families and staff...each and every one of you.

Pick Up Lane- Weather Concerns On The Horizon

Currently students are standing on the grass in socially distanced areas. However, due to rain and snow in our near future, we are exploring other methods. This past Thursday, we tried out a different process and it went very smoothly. We will do it again next week. Please enter/exit the same way, we will approach your car and take your student's name. His/her name will be announced over the PA system and the students will stay inside classrooms until you arrive. If you have last name tag, please keep it visible.

ATTENDANCE

If a student is not in attendance for an a.m. or p.m. live teacher-led meeting, they will be marked absent. If absences occur regularly, the teacher will be required to check-in with the student at least twice per week and keep a two-way log. Families will be notified if two-way logs will be used for attendance. Keeping track of communications, via the logs, will help support student learning in lieu of the Face to Face (F2F) time. The check-in information must be logged into our student information system as part of the attendance requirement. This two-way accountability piece is put in place at the state level.

We realize there have been some issues with connectivity and are not marking students tardy or absent if the concerns are wide-spread. If your student is being marked absent often and you feel it is due to connection issues, please notify your student's teacher or call the Torrey Hill office.

CHROMEBOOKS

Students will be utilizing their Chromebook daily. Please be sure your student is bringing their assigned, fully charged Chromebook to school. DO NOT send the charger to school with your student.

After-hours Assistance Is Available For Your Student! PLEASE CONTACT US!

The staff at THIS are committed to providing robust academic support to our students and families to ensure they have a successful and positive academic year.

Recognizing that students and families may need additional academic support outside of normal school hours, Mrs. Giddings, Academic Interventionist, will be providing virtual support to our students and families. She will be available by appointment at varying hours during the afternoon and early evening. Her ‘office hours’ will be posted in the THIS weekly newsletters sent out by the classroom teachers. If you need assistance outside of the posted hours, please contact her and she may be able to accommodate your needs. We ALL want to make sure your student receives the help they need.

To reach her, please email: cgiddings@lakefentonschools.org to schedule a meeting via phone or virtual chat. Please let her know your student's name, teacher name, grade level and subject area of need.
