Parent pick-up/drop-off and parking

We Need Your Help to Keep Our Students Safe!

Ensuring a safe and smooth drop‑off and pick‑up experience for every family is one of our top priorities. Recently, we’ve had a few safety concerns during parent pick‑up, including a formal complaint to the city. To keep all students safe—and to avoid further issues—we’re asking for your cooperation with our traffic flow procedures.

🚗 Drop‑Off & Pick‑Up Guidelines

Please enter 68th Street from 32nd Avenue, and use the south side of the street (the school side) for letting students in and out of vehicles. Once your student is safely dropped off or picked up, please continue toward 30th Street to keep traffic moving.

If you plan to park and walk your child in, parking on the north side of the street is absolutely fine.

🚫 Why Is This Important?

Loading or unloading students on the north side of 68th Street means they must cross the street, and we do not have crossing guards during these times. This creates unsafe conditions for students and drivers alike.

By following the designated traffic flow, we greatly reduce the risk of accidents and ensure a safer environment for all.

📄 Want More Details?

More detailed information—including maps and diagrams—is available on the school website under the “About” → “Traffic Flow & Parking” section.

LSK8 After School Program *MAC*

We are excited to introduce a new afterschool opportunity this spring: Movers and Creators (MAC), named in honor of our late principal, Ammon “Mac” McWashington and run by our school staff and PTO. This 9-week program is designed to give students space to move their bodies, explore creativity, build skills, and connect with one another in a supportive and fun environment.

Dates: March 16–May 19

Days: Monday & Tuesday

Time: 2:25–4:25 p.m.

Throughout the program, students will engage in a mix of active, creative, and skill-building experiences such as movement-based games, hands-on projects, homework help, practical life skills, and nature-based exploration. Activities may take place indoors or outdoors depending on the day and focus.

MAC is a donation-based program to keep participation accessible to all families.

Suggested sliding scale donation:

  • $280 → Full program cost per student
  • $210 → 75%
  • $140 → 50%
  • $70 → 25%

Families are invited to contribute at the level that works for them. No student will be turned away due to financial need.

Our goal is to create a safe, joyful, and enriching space for students after school — where they can move, create, and grow together. More details about registration will be shared soon!

Supporting Our Students During Ramadan

This year, Ramadan is observed from approximately Feb. 17 to March 19. During the month of Ramadan, Culinary Services will provide Iftar meals for students who are fasting and unable to eat during our regular service times. Iftar is the meal eaten at sunset to break the daily fast. We are serving these meals from Feb. 23-March 19.

We are excited to announce our first ever Pi Day Competition! Since March 14 falls on a Saturday this year, we will be celebrating on Friday, March 13.

The Competition

Each class will be represented by two students. The three students who can accurately recite the most digits of pi will be crowned our Pi Day winners!

Join the Fun

Beyond the main competition, we will have various games and activities for everyone to enjoy.

We need your help! To make the day extra sweet, we are looking for donations of pies (or other treats). If you are willing to send a pie or provide a donation for the event, please let me know via email, masharma@seattleschools.org! Your contributions are greatly appreciated.

Master the Digits!

Pi (π) is an irrational number, meaning its digits go on forever without ever repeating a pattern. Encourage your student to start practicing whenever they have a spare moment!

Parent School Day Visits

We enjoy having families involved at our school! To help keep everyone safe and make sure learning stays on track, please remember a few key guidelines when visiting:

  • Classroom visits should be scheduled, in advance with the teacher. please observe quietly and be respectful so students can stay focused.
  • Lunch Visits require prior notice, please contact the office 24 hours in advance of a lunch visit. Parents may lunch with their child at a family table. We kindly ask that after lunch, students return to class with their teacher and peers as part of their regular instructional routine. After lunch, parents and guardians may exit directly from the cafeteria to ensure a smooth transition to class for all students.
  • Recess and playground areas aren’t open to visitors unless you’ve pre-arranged it with the Principal.
  • When you arrive enter at the main office to sign in and pick up a visitor badge.
  • For privacy reasons, please don’t take photos or videos on campus without permission, and then only of students/subjects requested..

If you would like to volunteer in the classroom, please speak with the teacher you wish to volunteer with, and share what kind of support you would like to provide, the teacher can start the volunteer process from there!

Allergy Free Tables in Cafeteria

To better serve our students, we’ve clearly labeled tables: “Allergens” and “Allergy-Free.”

Please take a moment to talk with your student and remind them:

  • If their lunch contains allergens, they need to sit at an “Allergen” table.
  • If they have food allergies, they should sit at an “Allergy-Free” table.
  • if neither apply, they can sit at any table of their choosing.

Allergens include: peanuts, almonds, pistachios, eggs, and citrus fruit.

Free Youth Transit Program

A new statewide program now allows all youth under the age of 19 to ride public transit for free. As a result, ORCA cards are no longer being provided through Seattle Public Schools.

If you need a new Youth ORCA card, order directly through Metro by visiting the Metro reduced fare page.

For the most up-to-date details, please visit the ORCA Card Information page.
