Direct From Dylla’s Desk Direct From Dylla’s Desk

Hello, Hobby Families!

What a way to end the week! Rain, storms, cancellations, more rain—and possibly even more cancellations for Saturday events across the district. Through it all, thank you to our Hobby community for your patience, flexibility, and support in helping us make it through another successful week.

We are quickly approaching the end of our first grading period, which means report cards are right around the corner. If your student is missing assignments or has fallen behind because of absences, there is still time to get caught up. Morning tutoring is available five days a week, with different content areas offering support each day. This is a great opportunity for students to get extra help, complete missing work, and finish the grading period strong.

If your student needs additional assistance or you are unsure where to start, please reach out directly to their classroom teacher or to me. We are here to help.

Finally, I am asking each of our families to take just a couple of minutes to complete our Family Engagement Survey using the link below.

Your feedback truly matters. This survey gives you an opportunity to communicate directly with me about what we are doing well, where we can improve, and what you would like to see from your school. Many of the changes and improvements we have made at Hobby over the years have come directly from the voices of our families.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us and for trusting us with your students each day.

Have a wonderful weekend filled with Positive Purple Power!

As always, your proud principal,

Greg Dylla

From The Library From The Library

🎪 Book Fair Is Almost Here!

Mark your calendars — Book Fair begins October 16! Students can start saving now if they would like to shop. Purchases made during the fair help support our school library and future library activities. 💜📚

💰 A Note About Payments

Our Book Fair will be penny-free this year! If students pay with cash, their final total will be rounded up so pennies will not be needed.

For the easiest and most exact checkout experience, families are encouraged to use a card or set up an eWallet for their student.

eWallet link is here: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/hobbymiddleschool

Apple Pay will also be available during morning and after school shopping.

🍂 Library Club Has Been Busy!

Our Library Club students worked hard during FLEX on Thursday! Members brainstormed Book Fair commercials for our morning video announcements, planned fall and Halloween book displays, and practiced their new skills by shelving books in the library.

We're excited to give students opportunities to take ownership of their library and help make it a fun and welcoming space for their classmates!

Dress Code: Dress for Success!

Dress Code: Dress for Success School staff recognizes that parents bear the primary responsibility for setting standards for their children’s dress and grooming. However, because of health and safety factors, the influence of dress and grooming on students’ attitude and behavior, and because of the need to prevent disruptive influences and preserve the academic environment of the school, student dress and grooming are appropriate concerns of teachers and administrators. The district’s dress code is implemented (Section D); therefore, students will be expected to follow the guidelines set forth by the district. Dress code standards are extended to extra-curricular activities held on the campus. In an effort to promote a safe and positive school environment which is conducive to learning, students should wear appropriate clothing that will not cause disruptions in learning or safety. Inappropriate, indecent, suggestive or distracting clothing will not be allowed. *Final determination of acceptable dress code and grooming rests with the Principal or his/her designees.

Please Note

Part of supporting our students’ academic and social growth involves maintaining a disruption-free learning space. With that in mind, we want to gently remind our community about our campus dress code expectations—specifically regarding student hairstyles.

Starting this term, we will be fully aligning our campus practices with our NISD dress code policy:

Expectation: Hair must be neat, clean, and kept in a way that does not cause a distraction to the teaching and learning environment.
