Launching our "Game On" House System for 5th Grade
5th Grade Parents: Introducing Our House System
5th Grade Families, it’s time to LEVEL UP!
This year, Webb Elementary is taking our Game On! theme to the next level with the launch of our House System. Our House System will bring students across grade levels together as teams, giving every Cub a place to belong, contribute, lead, and WIN together!
🏆 Why a House System?
Just like a great team, our Cubs are stronger when they work together! Through our House System, students will:
- 🎮 Join the Team – Build connections and a stronger sense of belonging.
- ⭐ Level Up – Develop leadership, teamwork, and responsibility.
- 🏆 Earn Points – Celebrate positive choices, accomplishments, and living the Webb Way.
- 🤝 Play Together – Connect and collaborate with Cubs from other grade levels.
- 💙💛 Win Together – Build a positive, supportive school community where every Cub matters.
🎯 Our 5th Grade Leaders Are Ready!
Our 5th graders were given the opportunity to apply to become House Leaders, and our leaders have now been selected and notified!
They are currently in House Leader Training, where they are learning how to lead, encourage their teammates, model the Webb Way, and help us launch our House System.
🕹️ Unlocking the Next Levels
LEVEL 1 — 4th & 5th Grade
House System launches by the end of the 2nd quarter.
LEVEL 2 — 2nd & 3rd Grade
House System expands by the end of the 3rd quarter.
LEVEL 3 — Kindergarten & 1st Grade
Our youngest Cubs join the game during the 4th quarter.
By the end of the school year, our goal is for EVERY CUB to have a HOUSE and EVERY CUB to know they belong!
💙 GAME ON, CUBS! 💛
We can't wait to watch our students lead, connect, compete, celebrate, and grow together.
Different Houses. One Webb Family. One Team.
Once a Cub, Always a Cub! 🦁

October Character Trait
October Character Trait – Responsibility
Throughout October, our CUBS will be learning about and demonstrating the character trait of RESPONSIBILITY.
At WEBB, we define responsibility as:
BEING AWARE OF OUR CHOICES AND THE IMPACT THOSE ACTIONS HAVE ON OURSELVES AND OTHERS.
We encourage our CUBS to show responsibility each day by:
- ✅ Being dependable – Others can count on you.
- 📋 Taking ownership – Be accountable for your choices and actions.
- 🎯 Staying focused – Give your attention and effort to what needs to be done.
- 🤝 Following through – Complete what you start and keep your commitments.
Families can help reinforce responsibility at home by talking with their CUBS about ways they can take ownership of their schoolwork, belongings, choices, and responsibilities.
That’s how CUBS take RESPONSIBILITY! Game On. Learn On. Level Up.

This Issue: Fall Fire Safety & Halloween Safety Tips
Greetings, Webb Family!
As we welcome autumn, we remain committed to keeping everyone safe throughout the season. This week, we are sharing 10 essential autumn safety tips from the U.S. Fire Administration and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Upcoming newsletters will focus more specifically on Halloween safety. These tips provide a helpful foundation for keeping our Webb families safe as the weather begins to change.
Fire Safety Tips
October is Fire Prevention Month. As the weather gets cooler, families may begin using heaters, fireplaces, and candles more often.
- Use candles safely. Place candles on a sturdy, uncluttered surface. Never leave a child alone with a burning candle.
- Keep flammable items away from heat sources. Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from furnaces, fireplaces, wood stoves, and space heaters.
- Avoid overloading outlets. Plug only one heat-producing appliance, such as a coffee maker, toaster, or space heater, into an outlet at a time.
- Use extra caution around oxygen. Never burn candles when oxygen is being used in the home.
- Check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Test detectors regularly to make sure batteries are fresh and devices are working properly. Consider replacing equipment that is more than 10 years old.
Halloween Safety Tips
Halloween will be here before we know it! The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends these precautions to help children celebrate safely.
- Choose costumes carefully. Look for costumes, wigs, and accessories labeled flame resistant.
- Check costume fit and accessories. Make sure hats and scarves fit properly and are not too long. Costume accessories should not be sharp or long enough to create a tripping hazard.
- Avoid decorative contact lenses without a prescription. Decorative lenses should only be used after an eye examination and with a prescription from an eye-care professional.
- Use safe pumpkin-decorating practices. Young children should not carve pumpkins. Children can draw faces or designs with markers while an adult handles the carving.
- Light pumpkins safely. Consider using a flashlight or glow stick instead of a candle inside a pumpkin.
Thank you for helping us keep our Webb Family safe this fall! 💙💛🦁

MCKINNEY ISD HOT / COLD WEATHER GUIDELINES (Non UIL)
Heat Guidelines for NON UIL Activities
MISD will utilize Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) as the recommended forecast measurement to monitor environmental conditions (heat) during outdoor physical activities. WBGT estimates the effect of temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and solar radiation using a combination of temperatures from three thermometers.
MISD will use the DTN Weather Sentry App WBGT reading to determine the level of activity in which students can participate in outdoor activities.
Regional Classification
According to the WBGT Classification map:

Complete Your McKinney ISD Volunteer Background Check - NO Grace Period
Interested in volunteering in McKinney ISD for the 2026-2027 school year? Volunteer applications are being accepted for the upcoming school year. McKinney ISD requires all volunteers complete the required volunteer process each school year. Please note, MISD will not have a grace period this year for volunteers to complete their annual background check. This means you must apply and wait for your approved background check before you can volunteer on campus for the 26-27 school year.
All volunteers with McKinney ISD agree to a background check each school year prior to beginning volunteer duties. McKinney ISD is dedicated to making sure that all students have the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and secure environment.
The volunteer application process is just one effort used by the school administration to help make our schools safe.
VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS MAY TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS TO BE PROCESSED.
To apply, click the link below and select the School or schools of your choice. An email account is required for notification purposes. Once your volunteer application is processed and the criminal background check is complete, you will receive an e-mail notification regarding your application from the MISD Human Resources department.
