February 2026
Saturday School - February 7th
Our next Saturday School session is coming up this Saturday, February 7th! Have your child make up an absence and turn it into a day of attendance! This 1/2 day (8:30-12:30) of enrichment led by a certificated teacher, not only helps the school recoup lost funding from absences, but also helps interdistrict students maintain their good standing for interdistrict reviews by helping increase their attendance percentage!
Space is limited, so sign up today! Available for TK-8th Grade only. Sign ups will close Wednesday 2/5 (or sooner if we fill all spots): https://forms.gle/kVL8dxm3aC78joSt5
Online Surveys
Although we are still thoroughly invested in this school year, now is the time when we start thinking about the upcoming school year and begin making plans. In order for us to do this, we need to hear from you. These surveys will have to do with plans for your students to return next year, as well as surveys on what you think the District should work on in the future.
Intent to Return/Enroll 26-27 (Please complete by 2/6):

SOUPer Bowl House Challenge
During the week of February 2nd- 6th, Wildcats can bring in non-perishable foods for our annual “SOUPer Bowl” food drive! Donations will benefit our local Yuba-Sutter Food Bank, and also earn points for your House! If you want to maximize House points, you can bring in high-need items such as non-glass jams/jellies or items that can be easily heated/consumed by a person who is unhoused: soups with pop tabs, instant/cup of noodles, tuna/cracker kits, etc. Thank you in advance for your donations, and we look forward to seeing which House is this year’s SOUPer Bowl Champion!
Popcorn with the Principals
Come and enjoy some popcorn in the library with Mrs. Irby and Mrs. Brazil at 4:30pm on February 9th. They will be reviewing the MIUESD Dashboard and sharing the MidYear LCAP Update! We’d love to have your input and participation!
Teacher Collaboration Update
During Early Release time on Mondays throughout February, teachers will develop pre-assessments for the next cycle of intervention, review data, form groupings, and progress monitor. Teachers will also work to review materials in preparation for Trimester 2 District Writing Assessments that will take place at the end of the month.

Dismissal Changes
Please notify the school of any changes to your child's dismissal plans at least 45 minutes prior to dismissal so we can have time to get the information to all pertinent parties. If you need to make changes, please contact the school office so we can note it and ensure that the student goes to the right place. You may text changes to the school cell phone (530) 933-0746 or call (530) 656-2407 ext 10. We appreciate your help with this so that we can make sure everyone gets where they need to be.
Spirit Wear Store
Marcum Parents' Club has opened up an online spirit wear store that will be available for families to order spirit wear all year long! There are a bunch of different styles and designs you can choose from to show off your Marcum spirit! Don't worry, we'll still have our traditional Marcum Logo shirts for all students, but this provides a few more really fun options that will show school spirit! Be sure to check the online store out. They also have a different special promotion weekly, so check often!
Earned Income Tax Credit Information Act Communication
Based on your annual earnings, you may be eligible to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit from the Federal Government (Federal EITC). The Federal EITC is a refundable federal income tax credit for low-income working individuals and families. The Federal EITC has no effect on certain welfare benefits. In most cases, Federal EITC payments will not be used to determine eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income, food stamps, low-income housing, or most Temporary Assistance For Needy Families payments. Even if you do not owe federal taxes, you must file a federal tax return to receive the Federal EITC. Be sure to fill out the Federal EITC form in the Federal Income Tax Return Booklet. For information regarding your eligibility to receive the Federal EITC, including information on how to obtain the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Notice 797 or any other necessary forms and instructions, contact the IRS by calling 1-800-829-3676 or through the IRS website
You may also be eligible to receive the California Earned Income Tax Credit (California EITC) starting with the calendar year 2015 tax year. The California EITC is a refundable state income tax credit for low-income working individuals and families. The California EITC is treated in the same manner as the Federal EITC and generally will not be used to determine eligibility for welfare benefits under California law. To claim the California EITC, even if you do not owe California taxes, you must file a California income tax return and complete and attach the California EITC Form (FTB 3514). For information on the availability of the credit eligibility requirements and how to obtain the necessary California forms and get help filing, contact the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) at 1-800-852-5711 or through the California Franchise Tax Board website.
For additional information, refer to the IRS EITC web page or the California EITC web page.
