Halloween
Halloween
Let’s learn about a spooky themed and fun holiday. Can you guess what it is? It is Halloween! Did you know that Halloween is the second-largest commercial holiday in the country, right after Christmas? Halloween is annually celebrated on October 31. It is a celebration of horror, costumes, trick or treating,& jack-o’-lanterns. Halloween symbolizes the transition from the light of harvest to the dark of winter. The tradition was inspired by the Irish folktale of Stingy Jack, who tricked the devil. One of the most enjoyable activities is going trick or treating. The kids that go trick or treating receive a treat or candy. If not given a treat, they might play a trick. Halloween is older than you may think. It dates back to almost 2000 years ago! Many schools celebrate Halloween. Spencer Loomis students perform a parade and have a fun party with games and activities. The PTO is generous to organize a Halloween Trunk or Treat. If you are interested in the Trunk or Treat event, it will be taking place on Saturday, October 25 from 2:30 to 4:30 at Spencer Loomis. Are you excited for Halloween this year?!

Book Fair
The book fair travels to different schools to sell new and interesting books and items to kids. The book fair happens two times each year. The different books or items usually are novels, graphic novels, chapter books, posters, or pencils, and journals/notebooks.
The book fair is in the gym. It is split in half for the people who have gym. If you don’t have money at the time, your teacher will tell you to bring an iPad to take pictures of the books you want.
To buy the books, people at the counter will take cash or if you have an ewallet you can buy the books with that, your parents can also use a credit card. Give the books to the people at the counter and they will scan the bar code to get them.
This is what you do and what happens at the book fair.

Baseball
If you like baseball this is for you.
First baseball has strategy. One rule is you can only have 9 players on the field for defense. One player is called the pitcher. Another player you have on the field is the catcher. There are four people that are in fielders and three people in the outfield.
The pitchers role is to pitch the ball to the batter. The catchers role is to catch the ball and make sure that the base runner does not steal it. The infielders job is to field the ball or catch a fly ball. And get a out. The out fielders have the same job as the infielders. The batter tries to hit the ball and get on base or score. The base runners try to score and NOT get out.
In baseball there are rules like three strikes your out and 4 balls and you are walked. If a pitcher hit you with a pitch you get a free base. Also if you get three outs it is the other team s turn to bat. You can also steal to try and score. And infield fly rules. Also you have 9 innings but if you have a tie game at the end of the game you go into extra innings.
In baseball you have 30 teams. There are a national league and a American League. Two teams make it to a 7 game series and fight for a championship.
This year the L.A. Dodgers won the World Series.
Now you should go outside and try to play ball.

Cricket Basics
By Collin and Arjun.
Cricket is a team sport. It is also a side-on sport. A side-on sport is when you don’t usually face the ball with your chest. If you bowled a ball, it could have been the following: wide, dead ball, four, six, out, no- ball, and a leg bye. A wide is a run but not counted as a ball. A ball is when the bowler bowls the ball and it is not a dead ball. A bowler is the person who bowls the ball. A batsman is the person who hits the ball. A no ball is when the ball is bowled too high 2 times or the ball is thrown without a bounce and is over the waist. A dead ball is when the ball bounces twice. A six is when the ball goes out of bounds without a single bounce and is worth 6 runs. A four is when the ball bounces one or more times before going out of bounds and is worth 4 runs. A leg bye is when the ball touches the leg but is straight to the wickets. An out is when the ball hits the leg before the bat and is straight to the wickets or the ball touches the stump and knocks of the bails of the stumps or the ball is stumps we the bat and someone that is playing the game catches the ball without one bounce or the ball knocks the bails off the stumps and you are not in the crease. These are all the things that the umpire has to do.At the end, there will be a photo for each hand signal the umpire has to do. You play by hitting the ball without getting caught and should run safely so you won’t get run out. You hit the ball with a thick and straight bat and you run to get runs or score boundaries such as 4s and 6s. These are some fun facts about cricket: A guy named Pranav P. Danawade hit 1,009 runs in one cricket game. Another one is that Sachin Tendulkar is the only batsman to pass the 15,000 runs-mark in international cricket. This is all the information about cricket and facts about cricket. Now here's the photos I mentioned:

{RIYA: MALCOM AT MIDNIGHT} If you are into adventures themed books this paragraph is just for you! Malcom at midnight is all about the adventures of a rat who is mistaken for a mouse. This book really flows the vibe of a heart warming and a fierce story. Every page gets more and more interesting by the page, it gets more intense and interesting. Every time a question gets
answered, a new one comes up. (W.H. Beck) ( author) is a great author and really shows Malcom’s thoughts in so many creative ways. This book is all about a young rat trying to prove himself as a rat rather than a mistaken mouse. Malcom meets his first friends, and along the journey, he can’t tell which one to trust. Malcom still needs to prove that rats are good at
the same time living a complete lie. Any reader who starts this book will be determined to finish it. This book takes place in a basic school but all the details make it an amazing story. A young rat finds many mysteries unsolved, along the way he looks for the answers. This book is about true friendship, real friends, being brave and determined, and trusting yourself. The genre is
animals for the many who enjoy pet stories. Malcom is very shy but learns to take a stand for himself. I truly recommend this book to anyone who is interested, and for anyone who enjoys this book, there is another sequel called, Malcom under the stars.
If you like fantasy this passage is just for you! This passage is all about the first book of Harry Potter, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone! JK Rowling is an amazing author and in this text you will have a mini preview of the book if you are interested. So basically in the book an ordinary 11 year old boy named Harry Potter, has been adopted by his aunt and uncle. Since his aunt and uncle said that his parents died in a car crash, but one day, a rather large man
comes into their house and tells Harry Potter that his aunt and uncle have lied to him and really, they died from a fight of magic! He also tells Harry Potter that he is a wizard and he’s invited to the school called Hogwarts that teaches magical children magic. Harry Potter’s aunt and uncle don't want Harry to go because they think magic is bad but Hagrid is adamant that he has to
come. So Harry, sick of living with his evil cousin, aunt and uncle, said he would join the school. So then Harry and Hagrid have to get their school supplies and head to Hogwarts. But when they get there Harry finds out something mysterious, so he keeps investigating with the help of
his friends but when he realizes who has been behind the whole thing he is a little late which forces him to fight the bad person to the death. To find out more, read the book, Harry Potter, and the Sorcerer's Stone. That is basically the story, but I personally think it’s good because there are many twists in the book so you’ll never see what’s coming and it’s so fun to infer or
predict what’s going to happen next in this book. It also has a tendency to suck you into the book and if you start it, you’re gonna wanna finish because almost everything in it ends off on a cliff hanger. If you’re thinking about reading it now, Great! BUT DON’T EVER WATCH THE MOVIES BEFORE YOU FINISH ALL THE HARRY POTTER BOOKS! It’s great because it also shows you what it’s like to be in Harry’s perspective and how Harry feels I think J. K. Rowling
did a great job showing Harry’s point of view. It also is an adventure packed book that makes the time fly. As you can see, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a wonderful book and series which is why we recommend both movies and books and we hope you enjoy all the books and movies AFTER YOU READ THE HARRY POTTER BOOK VERSION! This is why
we really recommend this book, this truly an amazing book! Enjoy!
Thank you for reading this article, and happy reading! :)
This is all about the SL band😃🎷 by Natalie and Nora
Band!🎷
Calling all 5th graders! This group is for 5th graders only. Do you like music? Then, Band is for you!
Instruments 🥁
There are many instruments you can play. They are: flutes, clarinets, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, french horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, oboe, and percussion.
One of the most popular instruments is the flute. These instruments have a high pitched light sound but are very difficult to play because you hold it to your mouth and blow across. This instrument usually plays the melody in a song. The melody is the main part of a song.
The clarinets. These make a slightly lower sound than the flutes and require a reed in the mouth piece. The clarinets also play the melody.
The saxophones can be an alto sax or a tenor sax and they are a low brass instrument.
Ask Mrs. Rosales if you have more questions about instruments or would like to sign up.
Early mornings 🌅
Although on Wednesdays, you do have to wake up early for practice and if you are not an early bird this might not be so fun for you. The practices in the morning are an hour before school starts and start at 7:05. After band, you go to the cafetorium with the bus dismissals and wait to get called to go to your class. Practice time ⌚️ Band students practice throughout the week at different times. You go once a week at certain times that are listed on a schedule. You go to band during one of your classes to learn your instrument for 30 minutes. Party time 🥳 Band also gets to go to fun parties. There is a roller skating party at the end of the year and they go to Bowlero for a party. If you know someone in band ask them about it and be sure to contact Mrs. Rosales about signing up.😃
