We had a fantastic week!

We had three safety drills this week (Evacuate, Lockdown, and Shelter) and they went incredibly well! I was very impressed with how our Panthers behaved throughout each drill and how well they followed instructions and listened to their teachers. They epitomized the district's "Big 3" - "Be Safe, Be Ready, Be Mindful" perfectly and I could not be more proud of them!

Safety Reminders - Car Line Drop-Off and Pick-Up

We appreciate everyone's partnership in keeping all students safe. Please be courteous to all of our PTA traffic volunteers and staff members that assist with traffic.

  • Exit on the Right - Please remember that students can only exit from the right side of the vehicle, not the driver's side. Everyone should exit curbside as cars will sometimes pass on the left side of the vehicle. If your car seat is installed on the left side and your child needs assistance unbuckling, please move the car seat to the right side of the vehicle or park your car in the lot and walk your child across the crosswalk.
  • Please use the crosswalk - When walking between the sidewalk and the parking lot please cross only at the crosswalk for safety reasons. Drivers are not expecting or watching for people crossing at any other location, especially between cars.
  • Cell phones should NOT be used while in the car line - please ensure you are giving your full attention to the car line.
  • Car Seats - Please adhere to Illinois car seat laws for the safety of all passengers.

MAP Testing

Believe it or not, MAP Testing starts next week! More information is provided within this Patton Post so please be sure to read below for more information. Classroom teachers will be communicating specific information with you about times and dates for these tests.

Exciting News!

We were delighted to hear that we were ranked 32nd in Chicago Magazine's suburban "Schools that Rule" rankings this year! This is an amazing testament to our teaching staff and our invested and involved communities here in AHSD25! More information about these rankings can be found HERE.

Finally, please remember that we have a long weekend! I hope you all enjoy the extra day off. We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, September 2nd!

MAP Testing begins at Patton next week for all of our students in grades K-5. Students' reading and math skills will be assessed using the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) through the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). Classroom teachers will share specific testing schedules with you. We appreciate your cooperation in limiting appointments during identified testing times. Score reports will be sent home to families via email on September 26th.

SPONSOR A LIBRARY BOOK (NEW POST!) SPONSOR A LIBRARY BOOK (NEW POST!)

On Curriculum Night please come and check out the new books that have been added to the Patton library this year. These include picture books, early chapter books, fiction books, and nonfiction titles. Mrs Hemmer, our librarian, will have a table located just inside the building so please stop by and meet her. If you would like to "sponsor a book", just bring $10 cash and "Paw a Book" that your child would enjoy.

We will fill out a sticker nameplate with your child's name on it and they will be the first to check out that book. If you're unsure what book they would choose, you can give the $10 and we will call your child down to the library so they can pick. How exciting!

When they are done reading the book they will return it to the library for others to enjoy. Your generosity will make it possible for our Patton Library to purchase even more books for this school year. If you have any questions please email Mrs. Hemmer shemmer@sd25.org.

The temperature fluctuations this past week certainly had an impact on our Lost and Found as our shelves are filled with sweatshirts and hoodies!! Please take a look and see if youn recognize anything and have your student(s) come and take a look if you think they have misplaced something! You are also welcome to come in and take a peek any time!

Please remember to label all water bottles, lunch boxes and items of clothing as Mrs. Dunning goes through the Lost and Found regularly and reunites anything that has a name on it with its owner!

Molly Tuskey - 4th Grade Teacher

My name is Molly Tuskey and I have been teaching for the past 4 years. I went to school at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have taught 3rd grade in both Illinois and Kentucky, and this will be my first year teaching 4th grade! Some of my hobbies include being outdoors, traveling, cooking, and baking. A fun fact about me is that I got engaged this summer! I'm looking forward to joining the Patton family this year, go Panthers!

Maureen Fallon - 1st Grade Teacher

I have been teaching for 14 years. I took some time off to stay at home with my kids and returned to teaching 5 years ago. I was teaching at Olive last year. My husband and I live in Arlington Heights with our 3 kids. I am originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin, so naturally I am a Packers fan which makes me quite outnumbered in my household! I love teaching and I'm looking forward to teaching at Patton this year!

Juliana Nazaire - School Psychologist

I previously worked at Des Planes for my internship year. I was a behavioral therapist for three years previously. What I'm looking forward to most at Patton is collaborating with such a dedicated team and getting to know all the amazing students!

Fun facts: Even though I don't have any kids of my own yet, I love spending time with my niece and nephew. I also love making body butters and money bouquets.

TRAFFIC TEAM UPDATE (2nd POST!) TRAFFIC TEAM UPDATE (2nd POST!)

Welcome back Patton Families! We on the traffic team are looking forward to seeing everyone next week!

We are so lucky to have wonderful parent, grandparent and caregiver volunteers come to help ensure these times of the day run smoothly and safely and this year we are in need of some extra help! Do you (or a caregiver or a grandparent...) have a bit of spare time before school or after school? Do you/they want to be one of the first friendly faces our 394 Panthers see when they arrive at school or the last high five they get at the end of the school day? If so we would love it if you/they would consider volunteering to help us get our Panthers in and out of cars! We welcome people who are able to give any amount of their time - morning only, afternoon only, one day a week etc - we would be so grateful for your help!

Being part of the traffic team is a great way to feel like part of the amazing Patton community and is also a great way to meet other parents!

If you are considering volunteering, but aren't quite ready to make a commitment, you can shadow a traffic volunteer one day and see what it's like. We have wonderful kids who smile at you, say thank you, and are excited to tell you about their day. (Great job, parents!)

Please complete this google form to express your interest. Thank you!
