Introducing the Book Nook!
What is it? Why do we need it?
The goal is to get books out of boxes and into students’ hands and homes, as well as foster a LOVE of READING!
The empty bookcase outside of the library has been transformed into the Green Meadow BOOK NOOK!
The BOOK NOOK is a space for students to choose books to take home. They can bring the books back, keep them, or pass them along to a friend.
How does it work?
The books will be on the bottom shelf of the bookcase.
Students may take 2 books each visit. Students may visit the Book Nook right after arrival (after lunch count and attendance) at the end of the day or teacher’s choice time. Please see the grade level schedule below.
Books may or may not be returned.
What else?
The books on the shelf will be exchanged and refilled on a regular basis.
Grade 3 students will have the opportunity to apply to be Book Nook Librarians.
We need Parent Volunteers to help with our Book Nook project! Please click the link below to sign up. (Volunteers must have a CORI on file.)
Volunteers will be invited to a training session with Mrs. Lewis, our Title 1 teacher.

At the end of the day before 2:40.
Another time that makes sense in your room.
Only 1 -2 students at a time from your room, on your grade level day.
Visiting Schedule
Monday: pre-K (starting later in December)
Tuesday: Grade 1
Wednesday: Grade 2
Thursday: Grade 3
Friday: Kindergarten
Special thanks to Ellen Lewis for her work creating our new Book Nook, and to Taylor Vanaria, for creating our Book Nook mural.
Attendance Impact
As the first term comes to an end, families whose children have missed ten or more school days will receive an attendance letter, as outlined in our school policy. This letter is meant to inform you of your child’s attendance record and to provide contact information for school staff who can offer support if your family would find it helpful. We understand that young children often experience illness, and we recognize that this naturally affects attendance. Our goal is simply to keep lines of communication open and ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
Message from the School Nurse - Head Lice
Lice- What Families Should Know
We want to provide you with helpful information about caring for and treating head lice, as cases do tend to appear with increased frequency in Fall and Winter months. While head lice are certainly a nuisance, they are not harmful and do not spread disease.
What to Look For
Common signs of head lice include:
Persistent itching of the scalp
A tickling sensation or feeling of movement in the hair
Small white or yellowish eggs (nits) attached firmly to hair strands
Adult lice, which are very small and move quickly
Nits are often easiest to spot around the ears, at the nape of the neck, and along the hairline.
What to Do if Your Child Has Lice
Begin treatment promptly. Over-the-counter treatments (such as permethrin or pyrethrin-based products) are widely available at pharmacies. Follow all instructions carefully.
Remove nits daily. Using a fine-toothed lice comb helps remove both lice and eggs.
Repeat treatment as directed. Many products recommend a second application 7–10 days after the first to ensure all newly hatched lice are eliminated.
Clean household items lightly. Lice do not survive long off the scalp. Washing pillowcases, combs, and hair accessories in hot water is usually sufficient. There is no need for whole-house cleaning, bagging toys, or using fumigation sprays.
Check all household members. Only those with lice or nits need treatment.
Prevention Tips
Remind children not to share hats, brushes, hair accessories, or headphones.
Keep long hair tied back during school and activities.
Check your child’s scalp periodically, especially if you receive notice of cases in the community.
If you have questions about treatment, need guidance, or want help determining whether your child may have lice, please feel free to contact Nurse Ria at 978-897-8142. I’m here to support you and ensure students stay healthy, comfortable, and ready to learn.

Grade 2 Hour of Code Week
The “Hour of Code” event takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. It is held annually, typically in December, in recognition of the birthday (December 9, 1906) of Computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper. This year it will take place at GMS on December 15-19th. The program was designed to celebrate coding and raise awareness. It was intended to be a quick way to show that anybody can learn the basics of coding and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. Today it’s become a global movement, participating in 180 countries and 45 languages.
Green Meadow Grade 2 Parents and Caregivers are invited to attend a Computer Science class with their student. A Google form sign-up will be available to families through email after the Thanksgiving break.
The following is a schedule for Grade 2 classes:
Monday, Dec 15th Mrs. Jones (9:15-10:00)
Tuesday, Dec 16th Ms. LeBlanc (9:15-10:00)
Wednesday, Dec 17th Sra. Flores (9:15-10:00)
