Announcements Announcements

Phase 1 Building Completion

Phase 1 of our Bartlett Construction Project is coming to a close over April vacation! When students return to school on Monday, April 28th the new section will be open. As students arrive in the morning, they will make their way to the end of the building closest to the basketball courts, and make their way to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast. If they are not eating, they will report to the gym. When the bell rings, students will head to their first period class as normal. Over the vacation week, Ms. Nieves will email the students with the room numbers and locations of all of the classrooms in the new section.

Parking

This is a reminder that you MUST have a parking pass from the main office in order to park on the school's campus (this includes the WMS lot). There are no any additional parking passes available to be given out at this time. If you do not have currently have a parking pass, you cannot park in one of our lots.

Busses

Students must ride the busses that are assigned to them according to where they live. Students will not be allowed onto a bus if it is not their assigned pickup location or their assigned bus. In the afternoon, students MUST board the busses at BHS. If a student goes to WMS to get on the bus, they WILL NOT be allowed onto the bus.

Student Food Delivery

This is not allowed under any circumstance. If you have forgotten your lunch, a family member can always bring your lunch to the main office. They must come into the office and bring it to Ms. Donnelly who will hold it until your lunch period. Door Dash and other delivery services will not be allowed into the building moving forward. This is explained in detail in our handbook.

Cell Phones

The use is not allowed in our classrooms from the beginning of the class until the end of the class. There are no exceptions to this. Please look in our handbook for the specific details. Reminder that if you put your phone in the door holder for the class period you will receive Bartlett Bucks each time!

Tardy to School

Our school day begins at 7:30am. This is the time that you need to be in your first period class. Saturday schools will be utilized for continued tardiness to school in the 4th quarter, for every 5 tardies to school, students will receive 1 Saturday School. If you are a sports player or take part in an after school activity, you MUST be here by 8am in order to participate.

Mr. Duque's Classroom

Over the past few weeks, students in our Introduction to Engineering classes have been hard at work planning and constructing chairs as part of a hands-on design challenge. Using only cardboard—without any glue, tape, or fasteners—students applied engineering principles to create functional chairs, each designed to support at least 150 pounds.

Mr. Nasis' Classroom

The students in the Health II class worked together to research contraceptives and their effects. They used this research to make a shield, representing protection against unwanted pregnancy and STI's along with HIV. The shields provided information regarding the contraceptive method they used, the pros and cons, details on prescriptions and price, and what and how it protects against STI's, pregnancy and HIV. This project helped them to learn more about contraceptive methods and how they can be used effectively. They did an amazing job with this assignment and were able to fully grasp this topic!

Academic Points/Credit Recovery Due to Attendance

Students and families have received both letters and emails regarding quarter 3 attendance point deductions. Please encourage your student to attend the Saturday sessions to earn their points back. One Saturday session can replace up to 3 absences!

In quarter 4, students and families will receive notices of attendance point deductions throughout the quarter as they occur. There will be no time to make up the lost points once the 4th quarter ends, so please make sure to encourage your student to attend Saturday school sessions immediately after getting the notice before it is too late.

Nurses' Office Nurses' Office

Doctor Notes

If your student is absent from school, a doctor's note that states, "the parent contacted our office to inform us their child was ill and did not attend school" is not accepted as an excused absences. These notes, however, will be considered when coding your student as "not truant". If a note has more information such as "based on the symptoms the child is presenting, our office has determined that it can be managed at home and should return to school on______", then the note will be reviewed and most likely be accepted as excused. Any further questions regarding doctor notes should be asked of the nurses' office, kpepin@webster-schools.org.

Grading Policy Grading Policy

Reminder of the Handbook Policy

Loss of Points/Credit due to absences -

5-9 unexcused absences from a class will lose 10 points from their grade in that class for that quarter.

Grade/Credit Recovery Process:

Process 1 - Students can recover those lost points in the following quarter, if and only if, they have no more than 2 unexcused absences from that class during that quarter.

Process 2 (if last quarter of the course) - Students can work to recover lost points as soon as they reach their 5th unexcused absence by attending a 3 hour Saturday School session (up to 3 missed classes per session). Students may attend multiple sessions to recover for multiple courses if needed.

10 or more unexcused absences from a class will result in an automatic attendance failure for the quarter and receive a grade of a 40 (District Minimum Grade).

Grade/Credit Recovery Process:

Students may earn credit back by attending a 3 hour Saturday School session (up to 3 missed classes per session). Students may attend multiple sessions to recover for multiple courses if needed. They must attend enough Saturday School sessions to bring absences below 10 at which point the 10 point deduction will be enforced as noted above.

A public school district may excuse up to 7-day sessions or 14-half day sessions in any period of six months.

Based on this law, students may be approved for up to 7 excused absences in a 6 month period. Excused absences are defined as follows: Illness with medical documentation, A medical appointment that must be made during the school day, Observing a recognized religious holiday when the observance is during school, A family emergency, A planned absence for a personal or educational purpose that has been approved by the school, Educational disruption caused by a student's homelessness, unplanned hospitalization, or placement in foster care or a youth development center, Dismissal by the school nurse for illness.
