Greetings,
What a lively and fun week it has been, capped off by our exciting Club and Activity Fair! We encourage all students to explore one of our many clubs, activities, and intramural opportunities. These are wonderful ways to make new friends, try something new, and feel connected to the Springton Lake community.
We also enjoyed the launch of the first studio edition of the year for The Spartan Scoop, our morning news program, on Wednesday. All episodes are linked at the bottom of this newsletter, so be sure to check them out.
Fall sports are also underway, and we are proud of the student-athletes representing Springton Lake through their teamwork, effort, and school spirit.
Looking ahead, our fundraiser kickoff will take place on Tuesday, September 29, with grade-level assemblies throughout the morning. Students can look forward to a fun start to the fundraiser, including the return of the ducks!
With gratitude,
Principal Buterbaugh
Club Fair
Our annual Club and Activity Fair was held this morning, giving students the chance to explore our many offerings. Thank you to our advisors, student leaders, and Dr. Layton for making the event a success!
Students can sign up for clubs in Schoology until October 9th, or by clicking student form Learn more about the various clubs at Springton Lake by visiting our Clubs website.
Clubs begin the week of September 28. A late bus runs at 4:00 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Students can check with the main office for bus assignments. Once clubs start, participants will be added to a Schoology group for updates. Parents can also view club information through their Schoology account.
Questions? Contact the club advisor or Dr. Layton at dlayton@rtmsd.org.

Nurse
State mandated health screenings will be ongoing throughout the fall. All students will have their height, weight and vision screened. In addition, students in the 7th grade will have scoliosis and hearing screened. Please contact the school nurse with any questions.
Sixth grade parents, please send in documentation of a 6th grade physical if you have not done so already. The physical must be dated September 2025 or later.
Seventh grade parents, please send in documentation of a 7th grade dental if you have not done so already. The dental examination must be dated September 2025 or later.
Please contact our school nurse, Kristin Hartner, with any questions.
Thanks!
Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
To keep classrooms focused and learning uninterrupted, all wireless devices, including cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, and similar devices, must be OFF and AWAY during the school day unless a teacher gives a specific academic reason to use them. Students will be reminded each morning to power down their devices.
Please let your child know that you will not be texting or calling during school hours. If a student needs to reach a parent, a staff member can provide permission. In an emergency, the main office is the best way to get in touch. More details are available in the Springton Lake Student Handbook.
Thank you for helping us create a safe, distraction-free learning environment!
Parent Teacher Group
The Springton Lake Middle School Parent Teacher Group (PTG) is a volunteer organization open to all parents and guardians and teachers who work together to provide educational enrichment, a sense of community, and school support in the spirit of cooperation and fun.
The work of the PTG is made possible from donations made by our families. More information about donating to the PTG will be included in subsequent newsletters.
The PTG will meet at 6:30 PM in the Library on the following dates:
10/13, 11/17, 1/12, 3/9, 05/11. Everyone is invited to attend.
For more information about the PTG, please contact:
President ~ Carlie Ali-Hassan ~ president@slmsptg.org
Vice President ~ Staci McArdle ~ vp@slmsptg.org
Treasurer ~ Natalie Steager ~ treasurer@slmsptg.org

Attendance
Regular school attendance is essential for success in school and contributes to the development of good work habits, a sense of responsibility, and self-discipline.
Call our Absentee Voicemail Hotline (610-627-6500, ext. 2) each day the student is absent. Absence is the non-attendance of a student on those days in which school is in session.
- In addition to the telephone call, a written note, or completing this FORM indicating the reason for the absence must be submitted upon the student’s return to school.
All families will continue to receive an automated telephone call whenever a student is marked absent in homeroom. The call will be sent regardless if you have called the attendance hotline. This is an enhanced safety procedure that we are pleased to have available.

Penncrest High School Boys Soccer Boosters is excited to host Springton Lake Middle School
Night Under the Stadium Lights at Penncrest High School on Tuesday, September 29, at 7:00
PM, when the Penncrest Boys Varsity Soccer Team takes on Harriton.
The SLMS players are the future of Penncrest soccer. We want our younger players to feel
connected to the high school program, get excited about what’s ahead, and have the
opportunity to experience a Penncrest varsity game under the stadium lights.
We are planning to make it a fun night for them!
Wear your SLMS soccer jersey! We’d love to see the players representing SLMS
together in the stands.
We’ll have some fun Penncrest items for the SLMS players to help them cheer on the
team.
Plan on dinner at the stadium! The concession stand will be open with pizza, soft
pretzels, candy, snacks, and beverages.
And most importantly — come ready to cheer and help us fill the stands!
