From the Principal
Hello MRMHS Families!
As we move into October, students are now well into their classes, and the pace of learning is picking up. This is an important time to stay on top of assignments and develop good academic habits. We encourage all students to check Alma regularly for grades and feedback, follow up on any missed or late work, and take the initiative to check in with teachers if they are struggling with a concept or need extra support. Building these habits will help set the tone for a successful year.
Middle School i-Ready Assessments: Starting October 10, middle school students will complete the i-Ready assessments in reading and math. These provide valuable information about what students know and where they need additional support so that we can tailor instruction to meet their needs.
Correction: High School Juniors PSATs: Our Juniors will be completing the Fall PSAT assessment this month. We strongly encourage students to take this seriously, as the results not only prepare them for future SATs but also highlight their strengths and areas for growth, which will guide teachers in supporting their learning. A strong performance on the PSATs is also an opportunity to earn a National Merit Scholarship, potentially!
Family-Teacher Conferences are coming up on October 9th and 10th. You should have, or will soon, hear from your child’s teachers regarding the opportunity to sign up for these events. If you have not, please contact your child’s teachers directly or reach out to their assistant principal.
The partnership between home and school is essential for student success. I strongly encourage you to attend these conferences so we can work together to best support your child’s needs.
Best wishes for continued partnership and success at MRMHS!

Rules Regarding When to Keep Your Child Home
As a reminder, if your child has a stomach bug (vomiting or diarrhea), please keep them home from school for at least 24 hours after symptoms have stopped. The same goes for fevers. Students need to be fever-free for 24 hours without medicine before returning to school. This helps prevent the spread of germs and keeps everyone at school healthier! Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Lisa Brooks, RN

Chess Club!
Our Middle and High school students have started a chess club in the Library on Thursdays. We have partnered with Granite Gambit and Chesskid to offer both in person and online training, as well as competitive game play. This week the players learned formal notation and practiced marking each move to review their game. We meet from 2:30 to 4pm, and have plenty of time for snack, quick challenges, lessons and full on competitive games! All students are
welcome!

Tip of the Month!
It is important for high school students to stay on top of checking their email! This is an important habit to work on this year! So much important information will come out this way, and it is an essential life skill to have after high school.
Seniors !
Here are some upcoming events and things to be aware of with the college and career planning process.
Apply NH Day
Apply NH Day is on Thursday, October 9th. Students can apply with support to any NH school for free. This is in partnership with Granite Edvance, we are so excited to offer this opportunity for students at Monadnock!
Apply NH is New Hampshire's statewide campaign run by Granite Edvance, which encourages and supports high school seniors in applying to college. Students can apply to any NH college or university for free with the assistance of a counselor. Students who participate are also eligible for a $500 scholarship. Interested seniors can sign up today!
From the Middle School Counseling Office
A busy first full month for all of us here at Monadnock! Currently, the middle school has just ended the first round of VEX classes and students are starting their second round of VEX choices.
The schedule for middle school has changed this year and students will have core academic time in the mornings and now in the afternoons. This transition will help support students as they will eventually transition into high school and need to be used to having academic courses at all different times of the day.
Middle school is a minefield of hormones, new experiences, and self-discovery. Here are 5 tips for parents :
Provide study support - a quiet workspace, homework routine, and show interest in their homework - but avoid micromanaging! Mistakes are part of learning.
Build organization skills - these do not come naturally! Model using Google apps, a planner, a calendar, or other tool to help your child develop organizational skills.
Communicate with the school - Parent-teacher conferences are 10/9 & 10/10 if you can attend that would be awesome, if not reach out to your child’s teachers to check in on their progress. Also please check your emails for announcements and communications about what is happening here at school.
Foster open communication with your student - listen without judgement. Normalize their feelings and exhibit empathy, if there is anything you are concerned about please feel free to reach out to the school counseling department.
Teach self-advocacy - encourage your child to speak with teachers or school staff about concerns or things they need support with. They should be the first person responsible for their education, but be waiting in the wings to step in if they need you to.
I am excited to work with the middle school this year and look forward to supporting your students in their education!
