Hello Glennwood Families,
What an awesome (and busy) week it’s been here at Glennwood!
We’ve been celebrating CSD Reads and Dyslexia Awareness Week with a flurry of fun activities, special guest readers, and an outpouring of love for literacy. A big thank you to all of our families who sent in gently used books for our donation drive - we are so grateful for your generosity and for helping us spread the joy of reading beyond our school walls.
Picture Day on Wednesday brought out the best of our young Eagles - dressed to impress with bright smiles and sharp outfits! It was a delight to see everyone looking their best, and we can’t wait to see those final photos.
We hope to see many of you at our Glennwood Spirit Night tonight from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on the playground! It’s always a treat to gather as a community in a relaxed, low-key setting, and we’re so thankful to our amazing PTA for making events like this possible. If you pre-ordered a Moe’s taco box, it will be ready for pickup during the event. Whether you’re stopping by to eat, chat, or just enjoy the atmosphere, we hope you’ll swing by and connect with other Glennwood families.
I’d also like to give a HUGE shout-out to our Garden Gnomies - our dedicated parent volunteers who have been lending their time and green thumbs on Friday afternoons. The joy and wonder on our students' faces during garden time are truly heartwarming. A very special thank you goes to Sara Fleetwood and Lindsey Bryant for spearheading this magical initiative and bringing so much energy, intention, and care to our garden program. You are helping grow more than just plants - you’re growing curiosity, stewardship, and connection.
Our first School Leadership Team meeting will be held on Monday, October 20 from 4:00-5:00 pm. Parents are invited to attend. Here is the information to join the virtual meeting:

As always, thank you for being such an important part of our Glennwood Crew. Whether you're sending in books, snapping picture day memories, planting seeds in the garden, or just cheering from the sidelines - your involvement makes our school community truly shine. Let’s keep the good vibes (and the learning!) going strong next week.
In partnership,
Bill Howard

Walk and Roll This Friday, October 10!
Join us this Friday for International Walk & Roll to School Day, part of the larger Safe Routes to School initiative! Students are encouraged to walk, bike or roll to school.
There are also 3 “Walking School Bus” routes where a group of students, parent volunteers (and staff on our Electric Ave route!) meet and walk to school together! All are welcome to join, with or without a parent. We’ve got plenty of volunteers to ensure everyone can participate and get to Glennwood safely!
Don’t forget that every student who participates gets to put a marble in the jar to earn extra recess for the school!
Glennwood Spanish Program Receives a DEF Grant!
This year in Spanish class we are going to learn about Spain, its food, music and culture. We received a DEF grant to bring Julie Baggentoss, an experienced flamenco dancer and teacher, to Glennwood. During this event, kids will learn a few flamenco steps, how to use castanets, make palmas (hand clapping) and sing traditional songs. This experience will take place in late April or early May. Gracias DEF for supporting the Spanish program at Glennwood!
Book Fair with Little Shop of Stories - October 25-30
Book Fair Shopping in Person or Online!
Donation of Children's Clothes Needed for Clinic
We are in need of children's clothing in sizes 5, 6, 7 and 8 for tops and pants when children need an emergency change of clothing during the school day. We recommend that all students keep a change of clothing in their lockers for emergencies. Please donate any gently used clothing to the nurse's office. Thank you!

Second Grade Families - Help us host our "Spooky Snack Table" for Staff Appreciation on Thursday, October 16th
If you're a second grade family, please consider signing up to bring in something for our staff. Please drop off your items with Ms. Reynolds at the front office October 14-15th anytime during school hours and the PTA will assemble the snack table for our staff to enjoy on October 16th.
If you are unable to purchase items for the table, but would like to donate funds towards the event or to restock snacks in the teacher lounge, the PTA is also collecting monetary donations. Donations can be made here with a note that it is for the October Snack Table and we'll take care of it for you. If you have any questions, please reach out to Staff Appreciation Co-Chairs: Emily McDowell or Kate Myers (staffappreciation@glennwoodespta.com). Thank you!
If you need assistance with your tickets please reach out to Principal Howard at: bill.howard@csdecatur.net

Community News
We would like to invite y'all to our 2nd Annual Communities in Schools of Atlanta Reading Is Lit event. This event is in partnership with Talley's PTO and the Diversity Activities Committee.
Last year's event was so much fun! We enjoyed having families from the Clairemont, Glennwood and Winnona Park communities. We would like to extend an invitation again for this year's event.
The theme for this year is: Snuggle with a Book. Kids and families are welcome to wear their best book character, literacy or superheroes costumes (scary masks are not allowed). Entrance is free but you must register HERE in advance. Please bring a new or gently used book (lower elementary reading level) to donate. We’ll have music and concessions for sale.
