From literature appreciation to coding to digital citizenship, students learn a wide variety of skills in media classes! Each homeroom class receives a 40-minute media class once each week. Throughout the year, all grade levels listen to read alouds, use technology tools to apply research skills and practice coding in unplugged and digital ways, including robots and Scratch. Our curriculum encourages reading, research and computational thinking in a scaffolded way as our students grow from kindergarten through 5th grade. Students also have an opportunity in class to check out books in their interests and grow as readers!

On our media center website, there are several resources to help our students and families! Checkout the following frequently used resources:

• Research Databases (under 24/7 Media Resources, you will see all of our preK-5th databases)
• Media Class Schedule (to remind you when your child exchanges library books)
• Database Passwords (to help you utilize our resources; please log in to the Doc with an FCPS account)
• eBook Resources (read anywhere with books on the go!)

Book Exchange will begin on each class' second media visit of the school year!

Students can return their books each week on their media day to exchange them for other books or if they are not finished reading them, may ask to renew them for another week. A list of each class' media day is located at https://edu.fcps.org/nmes/media-center-schedule.

The media center is also open each morning from 8:30-9:00 a.m. for independent checkout for students who missed media day or need to turn books in early for new ones!

• Prek and K students bring home 1 book

• 1st grade students bring home 2 books

• 2nd-5th grade students may bring home up to 3 books
