September at a Glance
September: Attendance Awareness Month!
Every school day is an opportunity to learn, connect, grow, and stay on track. This September, we’re highlighting the importance of consistent attendance and encouraging our students and families to build strong habits that will carry throughout the school year.
Even a few absences here and there can add up. Missing just 2 days per month can equal approximately 18 days over the course of a school year, which is considered chronic absenteeism.
🏫 Every Day Makes a Difference
Strong attendance starts with simple, consistent habits. Arriving at school every day and on time helps students keep up with instruction, stay connected with teachers and classmates, and avoid falling behind.
Families can help by establishing consistent morning and evening routines, preparing backpacks and Chromebooks the night before, scheduling appointments outside of school hours when possible, and talking with students if they are having a hard time getting to school.
If something is getting in the way of regular attendance, please reach out to us early. We want to work together with our families to support students and help them be successful.
Every day matters. Every class matters. Every Mustang matters. 💜💛
Let’s keep showing up, staying connected, and making this a great year at Vasquez High School!

All students and staff who park on the Vasquez High School campus must obtain a VHS Parking Permit

To apply, students must complete the VHS Parking Permit Application and provide clear photocopies of:

🚘 PARKING REMINDERS
Once issued, your parking permit must be hung from the rearview mirror with the front of the permit clearly visible.
Students must park only in designated student parking areas, follow the 10 MPH campus speed limit, and may not park in staff, visitor, or reserved spaces.

Reporting Absences & Independent Study
***Please use this Google form to report your students absence:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScTbwhqxAwPoVR2HoblmHPR7UgO4yRMBPeVzxqD3t6HYffBxw/viewform
***To recover attendance credit for the day(s) your student is absent via Independent Study please contact me at your earliest convenience***
Here is how it works:
Independent Study allows your student to complete assignments for the time they missed. If they complete and submit the required work, attendance credit will be restored for those absent days.
To begin, we will need a signed contract from you/your family. The contract covers the entire school year, which means your student can use this option any time they have an absence (with approval).
Assignments will be posted to Google Classroom, and teachers may provide additional assignments to be picked up from the office or sent via email.
Important: ALL absences must be communicated to the attendance office in order to qualify for Independent Study.
If you are interested in moving forward, please let me know and I will send you the contract for signature. Once it is signed, we can begin this process immediately. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about how Independent Study works, the expectations, or anything else.
Click here for more information on Attendance Awareness and how to request Independent Study to recover attendance:

Tech Update: Student Chromebooks Required Daily
As we kick off the school year, please remember that all students are required to use a district-assigned Chromebook. These devices are essential for daily learning and ensure students can access instructional materials and testing applications securely. Personal laptops, iPads, or tablets are not permitted.
Here is what you need to know to keep your student ready for class:
Daily Prep: Students must bring their district Chromebook to school fully charged every day and take it home each evening.
No Classroom Charging: Classrooms do not have charging stations, so starting the day with a 100% battery is crucial.
Didn't Get a Chromebook at Registration? If your student still needs a device, you can pick one up directly from the District Office.
Thank you for helping us ensure a seamless, tech-ready environment for all our students!
