Health Education Curriculum Update - SB 288-Erin's Law Health Education Curriculum Update - SB 288-Erin's Law

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW), formally called the Ohio Department of Education, has shared with public schools across the state Senate Bill 288. This legislation requires that health education curricula be updated to include (K-12/developmentally appropriate) prevention education information in the areas of sexual abuse and sexual violence for students in public schools.

As promised, the district is providing an opportunity for families to review the curriculum, and parents may opt their students out of the lessons if they choose. For more information from the Ohio Department of Education- Click HERE.

Instruction occurs annually. This year the district will conduct these updates with students October 12-26, 2026.

Volunteer & Visitor Policy Volunteer & Visitor Policy

As we continue with our volunteer policy this year, please remember that any adult volunteer who wishes to enter the school building must have a volunteer application on file with the office every school year. After a parentโ€™s second visit to the building, or if they plan to chaperone, assist with a field trip, they are required to complete fingerprinting and a background check through the Central Registration Office. Please plan to complete this process at least 3 weeks prior to the event. This allows adequate time for the background check to be completed and for the appropriate information to be provided to the school administrator for planning purposes. Once completed, your background check is valid for 5 years.

Central Registration Office:

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our students, staff, and school community safe. Public schools have implemented these regulations to comply with state and federal safety requirements regarding volunteers and visitors in schools.

Thank you for helping us make safety a priority at Kramer Elementary! โค๏ธ

Any Parent or Parent Volunteer wishing to sign up to chaperone or assist with a fieldtrip or school event MUST come to get their fingerprinting/background check at the Central Registration Office at a minimum of 3 weeks prior to the event.ย  This allows for adequate time for the background check to come back and the appropriate information to go to the school administrator for planning purposes.ย  The district will not conduct any background checks after May 1st in a school year, so please plan accordingly.

Reading Corner September Newsletter

What is Reading Corner (Title I Reading)?

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our Title I Reading Corner Classroom! This is an opportunity for students to receive small-group reading instruction. The Title instructors, Mrs. Geshan, Mrs. Kobermann, and Mrs. Walters, will be working with qualified students for 30 minutes daily to enhance their literacy skills. We will work on targeted reading activities, such as letter naming, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.

At the beginning of the school year and again in December, every student in grades K-3 is given a series of assessments used to help pinpoint students who may need a boost to help them become a successful reader. Using this data, students qualify for targeted small group reading instruction. We help students learn letter names and sounds, phonics patterns, oral reading fluency, as well as reading comprehension.

Your child may simply need a beginning of the year boost in skills or they may remain in our care for the entire year. Students will be released from Title I Reading when they consistently meet the grade level benchmark. You are welcome to contact us at any time if you have any questions or concerns regarding your childโ€™s progress in Reading Corner. geshanc@talawanda.org, kobermanc@talawanda.org or waltersh@talawanda.org

We are excited to announce a new partnership aimed at improving how we share information with you. Talawanda School District is launching Peachjar this 2026-2027 school year! Peachjar is an innovative digital flyer management system. It transitions our schools from paper handouts to electronic flyer delivery, and assists with ADA compliance to meet the new Ohio law mandates in this area.

Why Are We Making the Switch?

  • Eco-Friendly: Saves thousands of sheets of paper annually.

  • Highly Convenient: Delivers school and community resources straight to your inbox.

  • Accessible: View important updates anytime on your phone or computer.

  • Saves Time: Frees up valuable administrative and classroom instruction time.

What to Expect as a Parent/Community Member:

You do not need to take any action to register. If your email address is on file with the district, Peachjar will automatically create an account for you.

  • You will receive a weekly digest email containing school-approved flyers.

  • You can view flyers by clicking the Peachjar button on our school website.

  • Your email address is kept entirely confidential and is never shared.

  • You can opt out or adjust your email frequency at any time.
