Yesterday, Reception had an exciting day out at Bland Close Farm. For some of the children, it was their first time on a coach, so the short journey across Ripon was an adventure in itself! When we arrived, we were introduced to Farmers Dannie and Grace, who told us all about the different animals they had on the farm. They then introduced us to some of them! First, we fed the cows and then went to visit the sheep. We got to feel some of their wool and tried to twist it to make it strong enough for socks! After that, we searched for clover which we fed to the chickens, felt some very soft alpaca wool, and even met 11 new-born piglets. After lunch, we ran down to the barley field and learnt about what wheat and barley can be used for, before we had a go at milling to make flour. Finally, we all got the chance to hold a little chick, which was a very special and exciting moment. Thank you to Dannie and Grace for making us feel so welcome and sharing what you do on the farm.

Year 3 Bake Bread Year 3 Bake Bread

On Thursday, Year 3 baked a variety of breads to discover which was both the healthiest and the tastiest. They experimented with five different types: white, wholemeal, multiseed, mixed grain, and sun-dried tomato and cheddar.

Working in teams, the children carefully weighed and combined their ingredients before developing their kneading skills to ensure their bread was light and fluffy. Once the loaves had been baked, it was time for the all-important taste test.

After sampling each variety, Year 3 decided that white bread was the tastiest. However, wholemeal bread was the overall winner, as it was not only delicious but also high in fibre, making it the healthiest choice.

Year 3 will be selling their sandwiches at Ripon Market on Thursday 18th June. Please come along and buy one for your lunch!

Year 2 Make Artistic Savoury Salads Year 2 Make Artistic Savoury Salads

We're delighted to share Year 2's news from Thursday:

We have had so much fun today making an artistic, savoury salad! The children worked really hard to safely use knives and graters, making sure they used the bridge or claw hold to keep their fingers safe. They thought carefully about their plan and tried hard to follow it to make their salad. Most importantly we LOVED eating them at the end.

On Friday 22nd May, a group of Key Stage 2 pupils took part in the Ripon Schools’ Swimming Gala. We competed against five other schools and scored points for the fastest times in races across all strokes and age groups, as well as in a series of relay races. After all the points had been totalled up, we are proud to reveal that we were placed 3rd overall! All the children received a bronze medal and were very proud of their performance. Well done to all who took part, both for your superb swimming skills and also your excellent behaviour.
