Message from Superintendent Mueller
Happy Friday, CUSD!
It’s hard to believe that we just finished our second full week of school. Teaching and learning is happening across our district and students are settling into routines again. I have enjoyed popping into classrooms and break areas across the district and seeing the engagement and energy that students bring to their spaces. Thank you for sending us such wonderful children!
We hope you enjoyed back-to-school nights at CHS, CMS, and Village this past week. Connecting parents and guardians with their children’s teachers is an important part of setting students up for success and we appreciate your continued support of our dedicated teachers.
It’s been a hot week and the weather seems to be holding the same for next week. As a reminder, we have dedicated Cool Zones at all sites and a Heat Day policy that we will continue to monitor. We actively track weather forecasts to determine if an early release ‘heat day’ is to be issued. Please take time to familiarize yourself with our Heat Day Release Guidelines to learn when and how an early release may be issued.
Tonight is the CHS Football season home opener! The Islanders will take on Hilltop - JV at 4pm and Varsity at 7pm. As a reminder, our games are ‘cashless entry’ - you can purchase digital tickets here: CHS GoFan Digital Ticket Link. You can also scan a QR code at the gate.
Have a great weekend,
Karl J. Mueller

CAUGHT POG'N!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments celebrating how our CUSD family is bringing our Portrait of a Graduate vision to life. What a positive testament to our community!
- Ellen Cody: Every year, we open the year with Ellen Cody being an absolutely essential teammate. She doesn't ask how to help, she just jumps right in, and no task is beyond her, from leading Phonics Planning meetings to delivering supplies to classrooms, cleaning out closets and making student assessment schedules to help our teachers get BOY data completed. She makes both certificated and classified teammates' jobs easier each and every day!!
- Joellen Semo has been a lifesaver at Silver Strand in these opening days while we work toward hiring new Health Tech support. She is coordinating care, communicating with staff and families, and immersing herself in all things Voyager. She has been up to bat for some curveballs and helped us plan for tricky pitches in the future! While Joellen has ALWAYS been a member of our team, we have so enjoyed having her here so often! Thank you, Joellen!!
- JD Laaperi, Jamie Friedman, Micky (Jose) Espinoza, Rebecca Considine, Jenna Shelton, Cynthia Borgard: Our enthusiastic PE/Lunch/Recess Team hit the ground running this year, engaging in Playworks training, innovating new systems and games for students, and bringing positive, welcoming, and supportive energy to our students at PE, lunch, and recesses. Their job is absolutely critical to our students being appropriately safe, nourished, and engaging in play that helps their brains grow. We are proud and grateful!
