Keep Up the Good Work! After our assembly last Friday with the CHS sports captains and the blurb in the newsletter, I'm happy to share that Deer Hill students got a much improved report from CHS Assistant Principal, Mrs. Darling. It's great to hear that we represented the Skipper Creed so well and were true super fans at last Friday's homecoming. Let's keep it up as we look forward to a great year of sports and other community events!

Next Stop . . . Bus Behavior: Now that we've restored the Skipper Creed at sporting events, it's time to talk about the bus. I'm fielding lots of concerns around bus behavior, some of which is far outside of the bounds of being safe, respectful, and responsible. As was shared in an earlier newsletter, we recently had assemblies with each grade to review expectations and yet many students are out of their seats, using loud voices, and disrespectful to both their peers and bus drivers. This is negatively impacting the comfort and safety of others which is unacceptable. Please understand that appropriate behavior on the bus as outlined in our handbook (p21) is the expectation. Riding the bus is a privilege, and consequences for misbehavior may include but are not limited to assigned seating and suspension from the bus.

First Deer Teams of the Year: This week we held our first Deer Teams meetings. We have 36 teams of approximately 10 students each that span all three grades; students remain in the same team throughout their time at Deer Hill. Each team is led by a faculty member, and teams meet once a month to build community through shared literature, discussions, and activities. This week Deer Teams read the book, I Am Every Good Thing by Derrick Barnes and wrote their own collective I Am poems. Many thanks to the PSO for purchasing a copy of this book for each team leader! A Successful Book Fair! Thank you to the PSO for hosting our annual book fair. Thank you also to the families who filled teachers' buckets with their wish list book choices!

Hugo kept busy on Wednesday! A bit of 3rd grade library time, a visit to 5th grade, a new friend, and a little rest listening to 4th grade chorus. A good day for a school pup.
