Providence Hall High School
NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
This month, we are focusing on collaboration, which ties directly to our core value of Communicate. At Providence Hall, we believe communication is more than simply sharing information—it’s about working together with purpose, truly listening to one another, and building a stronger community. We believe that by collaborating we go farther, together.
We are also excited to share the latest update to our Athletics & Activities Newsletter (link in the Activities & Athletics Information Section), featuring a story on our Pep Band and highlighting the work of band director Ms. Leach, and comments from teachers Mr. Grundhauser, Ms. Smith, Ms. Rominger, and Ms. Aguilar, along with students Andrew Taylor, Caleb Reynolds, Zoe Nissen, and Cash Telford. A second article features the growth and grit of our girls soccer team (featuring Coach Stejskal, Aybree Blue, HJ Brown, & Emmi Chiarenza).

PATRIOT SPOTLIGHT
Patriots in Action: Service, Learning, and Building Community
This summer, Providence Hall students came together for Patriots in Action, a program that blends service, learning, and friendship. Students toured the University of Utah, volunteered at the Utah Food Bank, explored the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, attended an “Ecoventure” class, and visited UVU’s Roots of Knowledge, a stunning stained-glass exhibit that depicts the story of human knowledge and history. They also crafted fleece dog toys for the Utah Humane Society. Together, they sorted an impressive 4,000 pounds of food at the Food Bank.
Advisor Hannah Thompson explained, “It felt like we were all really contributing to a larger cause. Students could see concrete proof of their impact on families across Utah.”
For many students, the trip was as much about connection as it was about service. Zia Schipper, a new Patriot, said, “This experience really helped me settle in and meet new people. We worked together, laughed together, and got to know each other.”
Veteran participants agreed. Mackenzie Winslow reflected, “Service doesn’t always have to be a big thing—small actions count too. Patriots in Action has helped me see that.” She also named Roots of Knowledge as her favorite activity, explaining how fascinating it was to study the details in the glass panels, including a depiction of Florence Nightingale.
Lhayaa Prem Kishore added, “I keep coming back because I love meeting new people and trying new things. The aquarium was my favorite this year, it was fun to see penguins with my friends.”
Others noted the program’s impact on starting the school year strong. Ryann Othon, entering PHHS as a brand-new junior last year, shared, “I didn’t know anyone. Patriots in Action gave me a chance to make a great friend right away and start my year off feeling connected.”
From penguins to stained glass to service projects, students agreed that the experience was memorable, meaningful, and motivating. Many say they plan to keep returning. As Mackenzie put it, “I plan to do it each year. It’s a great way to serve and get to know people without stress.” Zia echoed the same commitment: “I’ll definitely be participating again next year—not just because it was enjoyable, but because it will help my academic pursuits too.”
Patriots in Action happens every year at the beginning of August, giving students a chance to serve their community, explore new places, and start the school year with strong connections. If you’re interested in being part of this tradition, you can contact Ms. Thompson, hthompson@providencehall.com.
