Superintendent's Update
April 10, 2026
Dear CCPS Families,
I hope you all had a restful and rejuvenating spring break. It is wonderful to see our hallways filled with energy again as we head into the final stretch of the school year. As we settle back into our routines, I want to highlight several important academic milestones. We officially concluded Marking Period 3 on April 8, and students should be commended for their hard work throughout the term. Please look for report cards to be distributed on April 21.
April is also a month of deep gratitude for the dedicated professionals who make our schools thrive. We are currently celebrating School Library Media Month, and I want to extend my sincere thanks to our media specialists who foster a love of literacy and discovery. Additionally, I hope you will join me in recognizing our assistant principals for their leadership during National Assistant Principals Week this past week (April 6–10), as well as our paraprofessionals, whose invaluable support on Paraprofessional Appreciation Day (April 1) and every day thereafter ensures that every student has the tools to succeed.
Finally, I would like to remind everyone of a wonderful opportunity to support our fine arts program. Tomorrow night, April 11, all county middle and high school bands will be performing at Elkton High School. The middle school performance begins at 4:00 PM, followed by the high school performance at 7:00 PM. It promises to be a fantastic showcase of our students' musical talents, and I hope to see many of you there.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school community.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Lawson, Ed.D.

Celebrate America’s 250th with the "Off the Beaten Path" Challenge!
In celebration of the United States’ Semiquincentennial in 2026, the Historical Society of Cecil County invites you to join the "Off the Beaten Path" challenge, a county-wide adventure designed to uncover our local hidden treasures. In collaboration with local preservationists and government officials, the Society has curated a list of 27 historically significant sites—from well-known landmarks to tucked-away gems—to honor our nation's 250th anniversary. To participate, simply pick up a passport at any Cecil County Library branch, the Historical Society, Cecil County Tourism, or the Fair Hill Nature Center. Participants are encouraged to visit these sites and take a selfie at each location or marker as proof of their journey. Before heading out, adventurers are encouraged to check each site’s website for hours and potential entry fees, though all locations have been vetted for safe roadside pull-over areas.
This challenge is a fantastic way for families to engage with local heritage, featuring a special category for younger explorers; children under 14 who complete 14 visits will earn a Junior Historian Certificate and a gift. Completed passports and photo evidence must be submitted to the Historical Society at 135 East Main St., Elkton, by December 1, 2026, to be eligible for a prize. Submissions are accepted on Mondays and Thursdays from 10–4 and the first Saturday of every month from 10–2. Supported by local partners, including Cecil County Tourism and the Public Library, this event promises a year of discovery and community pride.
