National Hispanic Heritage Month
The theme for National Hispanic Heritage Month in 2025 is "Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future". This theme, chosen by the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers (NCHEPM), celebrates the rich history and achievements of Hispanic and Latine communities while emphasizing their role in shaping the future
What the theme means:
Collective Heritage:
This highlights the shared cultural traditions, stories, and experiences that unite Hispanic and Latine communities.
Honoring the Past:
It recognizes and learns from the historical journeys, lasting achievements, and vital contributions of past generations.
Inspiring the Future:
The theme also focuses on the present and future, celebrating the unique voices and experiences of those who continue to pioneer change and guide the path forward for upcoming generations.
Notable Hispanic Figures
- Pedro Pascal, the ultimate cool guy of Hollywood, is a proud Hispanic American with deep Chilean roots. Born in Santiago, Chile, Pascal and his family fled to the U.S. for asylum. He became an instant fan favorite as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones, but his star shot into the stratosphere when he suited up as the iconic bounty hunter in The Mandalorian, part of the Star Wars franchise. From there, he kept the hits coming with his emotionally charged performance in The Last of Us.
- She may have started out as Jenny from the Block, but Jennifer Lopez has become a multi-hyphenate entertainment phenom, and she helped female celebrities break out of the boxes that Hollywood had always put them in. Lopez has been awarded many high honors over the years, including multiple American Music Awards, ALMA Awards and Golden Globes. In 2020, Lopez wowed audiences with a fiery performance at the Super Bowl, sharing the stage with fellow Latina performer Shakira. She’s also an advocate for several causes, leading her to win an Amnesty for Artists award for her work to bring awareness to femicide in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua, Mexico.
- Jovita Idár As the proverb goes, when you educate a woman, you educate a family. Jovita Idár believed that wholeheartedly. This famous Hispanic American began working at her father’s newspaper La Crónica, and used the platform to speak out against racism and in support of women’s and Mexican-Americans’ rights. After writing an article condemning Woodrow Wilson’s decision to send U.S. troops to the border, the Texas Rangers showed up at her door to shut down the paper. But she refused to let them in, literally putting her body between them and the door, and they left. Although the Rangers eventually succeeded in shutting down the paper, Idár continued to stand up for women and Mexican-Americans her entire life. Idár died in San Antonio in 1946, but she lives on in spirit as one of the powerful and influential Hispanic women throughout history who have changed the world.

Parking Lot Expectations!
Recently, there have been growing concerns about students driving recklessly and at unsafe speeds in the school parking lot. This behavior puts everyone at risk—drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and staff. The parking lot is a shared space where safety must come before convenience or showing off. Speeding, cutting through spaces, and driving on access roads are unacceptable and may result in a loss of parking privileges. All students are expected to drive responsibly, follow appropriate speed limits and remain aware of their surroundings at all times.

Student Video Contest!
My name is Franki Moscato (girl, 23, Oshkosh). I am “that Wisconsin girl” who won a Gold Ticket on ABC’s American Idol. Perhaps you’ve seen me sing the Anthem for the Packers (5), Bucks (7), NASCAR (1), or Whitehouse (2). I am writing to ask you for help communicating a project I am working on to fight teen suicide.
My story includes being bullied out of two schools and finding myself in a dark place. Today, I use my platform and my non-profit, Franki Moscato Foundation, to advocate for teen suicide prevention.
I am inviting Wisconsin students in grades 6-12 to make a 60-second video about being kind, anti-bullying, or somehow preventing teen suicide. See my contest here: http://BeKindContest.com
Video submissions are due by November 1st. We have to hurry! The winning video will be professionally produced and broadcast as a televised Public Service Announcement across Wisconsin. The kids and adults who worked on the project will be invited to be cast in the production spot, and the author’s parents will win a FunJet vacation to the Dominican Republic!

WHO'S UP FOR TRIVIA?
Just for Fun! Do You Know....?
...what the first feature-length animated movie ever released was? Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs! A 1937 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by RKO Radio Pictures. The Grimm fairy tale gets a Technicolor treatment in Disney's first animated feature. Jealous of Snow White's beauty, the wicked queen orders the murder of her innocent stepdaughter, but later discovers that Snow White is still alive and hiding in a cottage with seven friendly little miners. Disguising herself as a hag, the queen brings a poisoned apple to Snow White, who falls into a death-like sleep that can be broken only by a kiss from the prince.
