Winton's Bi-Weekly Update
February 20th 2025
Message From The Principals:
Dear Winton Families,
We have survived the bitter cold!
Thank you to all the families who are following our drop-off procedures and paying attention to the signs. Helping your child exit the car quickly when you pull up in front of the school keeps the line moving smoothly and reduces traffic congestion in the parking lots and surrounding streets. If your child needs more time to get out of the car parking is probably the best option for you and all other families.
March is quickly approaching. Spring Break is later this year, starting on Monday, March 31st. Parent teacher conferences will occur the week prior to break and another round of testing will also happen.
Our 3rd through 5th grade teachers and students are eagerly preparing for the ISAT (Idaho Standardized Achievement Test). These assessments in reading and math will start a few weeks after spring break. Our classrooms are taking interim assessments (practice) and getting ready for their big event!
If you have any questions or concerns, please stop by the office and speak with an administrator—we have an open-door policy and are happy to help!
Thank you!
Eileen Blough (Principal)
Kathleen Corbeill ( Asst. Principal)
Attendance Matters!
Attendance Tips for Parents
**Attendance is a parent and student responsibility. Let your child know that you think attending school daily is important. Show them you are interested in their school activities and tell them that you want them to do well in school.
** Good attendance habits start an early age. Make sure your child goes to school regularly and on time. This helps them develop a positive view of school and the importance of attendance.
** Discuss with your student that arriving to school on time and to report to class when dropped off. **Take an interest in your child’s school work. Check homework or classwork for accuracy and completeness
**Do not provide inappropriate excuses for your child to miss school. Do not let them take time off from school for minor ailments – particularly those which would not prevent you from going to work.
**Reward positive improvements in attitude or responsibility regarding school attendance
**Let Winton know how we can help support your family in getting your child(ren) to school
The Coeur d'Alene School District's Attendance Policy (3040/522) states that students with 10 or more absences in a grading period may be referred to the school board for habitual truancy.

Title News
Reading, Every Word Counts!
Reading is the gatekeeper of knowledge acquisition. Readers tend to be more empathetic humans because they view the world from multiple different perspectives thanks to the lens of fiction. Reading both fiction and non-fiction helps us become stronger communicators, better at speaking and writing. It’s only natural, therefore, to want to give our children an edge in life by encouraging them to read–to read well and read profusely.
PE Reminder
Attention Winton Families
Please remember that students are not allowed to wear snow boots during PE class. Snow boots ruin our gym floors and students tend to have more accidents while wearing their snow boots. During the winter months, students should keep an extra pair of tennis shoes in their locker for PE days. While the school does have a limited number of shoes available to borrow, we’ve noticed that about half of each class is needing them each week. If a student does not have the appropriate shoes on their PE day, they will need to sit out for that period.
Community School Information
A Community School exist to improve student outcomes and give families the tools needed to be successful. Doing this by utilizing the community around us to provide students and families direct services and remove barriers to learning. Please reach out to Ashley Weeks if you have any questions or needs.
