Booksgiving is Coming! November 25 & 26
Booksgiving is returning to Bellview once again on November 20 & 21st. Show your spirit of giving and caring by donating slightly used books to the school. This collection of books will then be available for all students to select their favorite ones. Students can participate in this event by bringing books to school in the coming weeks. Students may select a book even if they did not donate one. We hope to collect more than 250 books. Collection boxes will be in the drop off zones outside of classrooms, or students can give the books to their teacher, and we will collect them.
The Bellview community looks forward to Booksgiving; a time when we can display our charity and gratitude, and also expand our exploration of the world through the adventure of reading a new book.
SART Lesson Notification
Dear Bellview Families,
In 2015 Oregon passed Senate Bill 856 ("Erin's Law") that mandates sexual assault prevention education in grades K-12. Jackson County Sexual Assault Response Team (JC SART) is a local organization that provides services to sexual assault survivors and brings prevention education classes into our local schools. JC SART’s Prevention program offers a comprehensive K-12 sexual and gender violence curriculum for schools that focuses on prevention as well as risk reduction methods. The lesson plans are age appropriate and in line with state and national sexual health standards and Erin’s Law recommendations.
JC SART’s K-5 curriculum is delivered in two Levels. Level 1 focuses on personal space and boundaries, understanding and recognizing Consent (in the perspective of playing a game with their friend) as a freely given yes, telling/reporting to an adult if someone is getting hurt, empathy, internet safety, peer pressure, and refusal skills. Level 2 focuses on good touch/bad touch, body ownership, good secrets/bad secrets, and grooming- as the process used by abusers to build trust with children so they can harm them. Our presentations delivered with sensitivity, in a conversation style prompted by stories that we read.
An overview of each lesson can be provided by reaching out to your child’s teacher, Ms. Michelle (CDS) or Mrs. McCollom (Principal).
Please feel free to contact Kyndra Laughery, JC SART Prevention Coordinator, with any questions or concerns. She can be reached at, sartprevention@gmail.com or through their website at www.jacksoncountysart.org
Level 1 lessons will be delivered at Bellview November 18-22.

Bellview's Winter Care Box Project
Each November, our school holds our annual Winter Care Box project. With donations from Bellview families and community partners, we gather the main ingredients for a holiday meal, along with gifts for each child under 18 in the household, and some other staple items, to provide families in our school community that are struggling financially with some holiday cheer. Each classroom is assigned an item or two for students to bring in a small item to contribute to the project, and we start an electronic "giving tree" exemplified by the helping hands tree that goes up in our lobby during the holiday season. The Presbyterian Church in town has generously donated all of the hams and turkeys! If you feel like your family needs this support this year, please reach out to Christine McCollom.
Here is the list of items we are asking families to donate:
- Mendez: 2-4 kid toothbrushes, 1-2 kid toothpastes
- Lawrence: 2-4 toothbrushes (older child or adult sized), 2-4 stockings
- McGowne: 2-4 stockings, 2-4 kid toothbrushes
- Eddington: 2-4 boxes of kid bandaids, 2-4 toothpastes
- Hansen: 2 boxes of candy canes, 2 bags of holiday candy
- Gayton: 2-4 children’s shampoos, 1-2 boxes of hot chocolate
- McAlvage: 2-4 packages of hair ties, 2-4 hair brushes
- Gates: 2-4 cans cranberry sauce, 2-4 gravy packets
- Preskenis: 2-3 aluminum trays (for cooking a turkey in), 2-4 rolls of wrapping paper
- Carnes: 2-4 cans of green beans, 2-4 rolls wrapping paper
- Tejada: 2-puzzle books/Mad Libs, 2-3 small boxes of crayons/colored pencils
- Schmeling: 2-4 boxes of Stove Top stuffing, 2-3 bottles of sparkling cider

The gift list is currently incomplete. If you want to purchase a gift but they are all taken, check back in a couple of days! All gifts should be delivered, unwrapped, to the Bellview office by December 11th.
PTO Update
FreshSchools Sign Up
FreshSchools is an online database and communications system used by Bellview's PTO, Event Volunteer Coordinators and (class) Room Parents. If you would like to get more involved or stay up to date with the school's activities, please email Lia at liaspidlen@gmail.com to get signed up.
Snacks- Please Help!
We make some basic snacks available to students that don't have one in the office. The demand for snacks has grown exponentially this year. If you are able to pack a snack or two in your child's bag each day, please do! We are very active here at school and our student's brains need fuel for all that learning. If you are able to purchase any extra snacks to donate to the school, that would help our budget and our students tremendously. Please consider donating some healthy snacks if you are able. Thank you for all that you do to support our students!
Volunteering at School
How To Become a Volunteer:
Step 1:
Complete the Volunteer Registration Form, which includes the Notice of Background Check form.
Once completed, please submit the forms and a copy of your driver’s license to the Office Manager of the school where the volunteer position is needed. Forms may also be mailed or faxed to the school office. If no school is specified, forms may be submitted to 885 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, OR 97520.
Once you have passed your background check, you are cleared to apply to volunteer for any position throughout the school year. No additional background check is necessary, however, it is necessary to repeat this process each school year.
Step 2:
Mark your calendar with the agreed upon days and times. Please note that certain positions require training and a time commitment. Make sure you can fulfill the volunteer commitments before agreeing to the position.
Be prompt and dependable. Call ahead if you are ill or unable to keep your appointed times. When you commit to volunteering, people are depending on you.
