Centennial Blue Jays
February Newsletter 2026
Greetings, Blue Jay Families!
Many thanks to those who stepped up for leadership roles in the PTO! President: Tobias Policha, VP: Jordan Falk, Secretary: Thomas Joyce, Treasurer: Cassie Anderson. We encourage families to come to the next PTO meeting - there are lots of ways you can plug in to help! And thank you, PTO, for an awesome Family Swim Day! Can't wait for the dance!
The next couple months are all about reading as we get ready to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday. Our OBOB championship is finishing up. Emeralds reading challenge will kick off with an assembly on Feb. 10. This year's One Book One School challenge will begin in March - all students and staff will be reading the same book! And the Read-A-Thon will also be happening in early March.
This month's character trait is KINDNESS. We hope you will join us in encouraging your kiddos to be kind to their fellow students and staff!
Have a great February!

Calli Dean, Assistant Principal

February Character Trait of the Month: Kindness
February’s focus is on kindness and respecting others by being bucket fillers versus bucket drainers. A bucket filler treats others with kindness, encourages the people around them, and looks for the positives in people and situations. These concepts will be shared with students through modeling, read-aloud books, and scenario discussions. Students will be acknowledged for their bucket-filling behaviors. Let the bucket filling begin!

Volunteering at Centennial
We LOVE volunteers at Centennial! Parents are welcome and encouraged to come and help in their students' class(es) or at special events. Please do check with the teacher about days/times that might be best. There may also be projects you can help with outside of school. Community members are also welcome. We currently have volunteers helping teachers with tasks, helping with reading groups, helping tidy the lost & found, and helping Ms. Hodgin shelve books - a neverending task! It takes a village!
For everyone's safety, all school volunteers need to be registered and undergo a background check. If you're not sure if you're still current, please ask Ms. Deb.

Communicating with Centennial
Our website is a solid place to look for information such as menus. Facebook will be your best bet for quick updates and photos. We also frequently send information via email, so be sure to check your email frequently. Many teachers use the SeeSaw app to communicate via phone. Your child's teacher will send you an invitation to join their classroom SeeSaw community, and it's a great way to communicate directly with the teacher. And Ms. Deb is always available for questions!

How to support our school:
- You can always get blue bags from the school office. This is an easy way to support the PTO through donations of bottles and cans. Just bring the bag to the Springfield Bottle Drop Redemption Center, scan the PTO bar code, and toss your bag.
- Stay tuned for more information on how to purchase Blue Jay gear for the whole family!
- Watch for upcoming fundraisers, and in the meantime, volunteer!
