Supervision begins at 9:45 AM
Students should be in their classrooms by 10:00 AM

Late start Child Care is for students who have registered. You will receive seperate communication in an email. Please note- if you are not registered, you may not attend Late Start Child Care.

THERAPY DOGS

Lake in the Hills Elementary School is excited about joining a growing movement to have an animal assisted comfort dog visit our students. Our hope is that this will be an ongoing activity, as well as another strategy that aligns with our district’s social emotional goals to positively impact the well-being and mental health of our students.

In order for your student to participate, they will need to return the permission slip sent home today on Friday, August 28th.

We know that there may be questions as to how this may work with the district and would like to share some information that we have gathered. If you have any further questions about this program, please reach out to Lindsay Mota at lindsay.mota@d300.org.

What are the Benefits of Having a Visit by a Comfort Dog?

Provides a calming effect on students and reduces stress;
Improves concentration, self-esteem and self-confidence;
Fosters a sense of responsibility and improves attendance;
Motivates students to think and learn;
Encourages respect and therefore improves relationships;
Helps build confidence in reading and improves literacy skills;
Stimulates memory, problem solving and game playing;
Encourages expression, participation and shared attention;
Provides positive interactions surrounding a mutual topic for discussion;
Encourages responsibility and well-being;
Improves self-esteem, relieves anxiety and lifts mood;
Teaches compassion and respect for other living things;
Reduces blood pressure, assists with pain management, gives motivation to move and stimulates the senses

How has the School Planned for This Visit?

Parents/guardians can decline their child having contact with the therapy dog;
All contact will be planned and children will not be left unsupervised with the dog.
When the dog is not working, the dog will be under the supervision of the handler and of designated school staff, in an authorized area.
The dog will be on a lead/leash with the handler.
The introduction of a school dog will not be a distraction to student learning, but rather an enhancement to our ideas for social emotional growth.
No child will ever be made to interact directly with a dog.
The dog handler will sign themselves and their therapy dog in upon arrival and out upon leaving any school in the district.
The handler will not charge a fee for the work they perform with their dog.
Registration and training
Valid dog license
Valid and up to date immunizations and vaccines are documented
Some children may have a fear of dogs. The dog will only be in contact with children that want to work with him.
If your child has allergies to pet dander, they may not be a good candidate for this resource.

INFORMATION RESOURCES

Please be sure to check our LITH website at d300.org/LITH for up-to-date information and follow us on Facebook for updates.

MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE

PLEASE TURN IN YOUR KINDERGARTEN EYE EXAMS!!

An eye exam is required for all students entering kindergarten. An eye exam must be from and eye doctor and on the State of Illinois Eye Exam Report form.

ACCIDENTS!

Accidents, spills, dirt happens! Please make sure your student (regardless of age) has a change of clothing in their backpack just in case they are needed. The nurse has a very limited supply of new underwear and gently used clothing to pass out in emergency situations.

VISION AND HEARING SCREENINGS ARE STARTING SOON

Vision and hearing screenings are done once a year at each school for specific grades, as mandated by the state. However, if you have any concerns regarding your student's

vision or hearing, please contact the school nurse who will screen your student and let you know whether or not further follow up is necessary.

Please notify your child’s school nurse in writing if you are requesting your child to not receive a vision and/or hearing screening and the reason for the objection.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Throughout the year, you will hear us emphasize the importance of consistent school attendance. Being present every day—and arriving on time—sets your child up for success.

When a student arrives even a few minutes late, it disrupts their morning routine and causes them to miss crucial foundational instruction. Just 10 minutes of tardiness each day adds up to 50 minutes a week. Over the course of the school year, that equals 29 hours of missed instruction—more than 4.5 full school days!

We know that morning routines can be challenging. If your family needs support or assistance getting your child to school on time, please reach out to our front office staff. We are here to help!

STICKY SITUATION: NO GUM, PLEASE!

Sticky Situation Alert!

We’ve noticed an uptick in gum chewing at school recently—and unfortunately, a few wads have ended up on our hallways and blacktop. To help keep our school clean and our shoes stick-free, please remind your children that gum is not allowed at school. Thank you for your support!

P.E. HAPPENINGS

Leopard Fitness Pride! 🐾💛

We'd love to see how our Leopards stay active outside of school! Send me a photo of your child being active this summer—riding bikes, swimming, playing sports, hiking, or anything else that gets them moving!
