Parkview Elementary
May/June 2025 Newsletter
May 1, 2025
Dear Parkview Families,
As we draw close to the end of the school year, we start to think about summer plans. I would like to put in a plug for continued summer reading. There is research that indicates our students will regress somewhat in their reading abilities over the summer. The good news is that there is something that we can do about the summer reading loss, or at least to work on slowing the process down. Here are some ideas on how to promote reading over the summer:
Visit the public library. Help your child to get his or her own library card.
Have books, magazines, and newspapers around the house. Let your child see you reading.
Encourage your child to write messages such as grocery lists, to-do lists, postcards, or short messages to family members or friends.
When watching television, have the captioning feature enabled so that the children view the words while hearing them performed aloud, also set reasonable limits for television viewing.
Talk to your child about what he or she is reading. Ask open-ended questions such as "What do you think about that story?" "What would you have done if you were that character?"
Listen to your child read. Use strategies to help your child with tricky words. For example, when your child comes to an unfamiliar word, you might say, "Skip it and read to the end of the sentence. Now try again – what makes sense and looks like the word that you see?"
I would like to thank everyone as we near the end of the school year. The students have grown not only in inches, but leaps and bounds academically, socially, and emotionally! As a staff, we have one retirement. Congratulations to Mrs. Lora Bowe, Educational Assistant, as she retires from the school district with 27 years of service!
This is a nice time of the year to reflect, show gratitude and celebrate successes….large and small. THANK YOU for your partnership and continued support.
Yours in Parkview PRIDE,
Melissa Olson

Moving?
Have you or will you be moving?
A pink form went home at the beginning of April. Please fill out and return only IF there will be any changes and your child won't be returning to Parkview in the fall. Thank you!!
Notes from the Office
If your child is going to be absent or tardy for any reason, please call the office by 8:30 a.m. School starts at 7:45 am. Any student who arrives after 7:50 am is considered tardy.
MEDICAL NOTES FROM DOCTORS RECOMMENDED:
If your child(ren) miss school for a medical appointment, please ask for a doctor's note to excuse the absence. This way, it can be marked medical and will not go against attendance policies.
A fax from the doctor's office can be sent to (715)720-3755
If you need to pick your child up early or for an appointment, parents should use our sign out sheet located in the main office vestibule. We will then call your child down to the office. Students will not be waiting in the office so make sure to give yourself enough time prior to appointment.
Morning Reminder
A reminder that playground supervision starts at 7:20 a.m. Please have your child(ren) head directly to the playground unless it's an Indoor Recess day. Students should not be left waiting out front unattended until the bell rings.
Afternoon Reminder
If you need to change your child's transportation for the end of the day, please send a note to your child's teacher. Phone calls are discouraged but if a change needs to be called in, PLEASE call the office by 1:30 pm to insure that the message gets delivered to the classroom.
VERY IMPORTANT: If there is a change for that day, please do not contact the teacher. Teachers are busy in the classroom and not always able to check their devices. There could also be a sub in the classroom so please call the office by 1:30 to insure that your child gets the message.
Thank you!
Bus Transportation
All student rerouting requests will originate at GoRiteway- formally Chippewa Yellow Bus . Student rerouting requests require a 24 hour notice and approval by the bus company. This includes one time and/or occasional rerouting requests. Please call 715-726-2454 if you have any questions or concerns. Please click here for more information regarding rerouting requests.
If a student's afternoon transportation plans vary week to week, please provide the teacher and the office with a monthly calendar to insure that your child gets to their intended location.
Go Riteway is reminding families about after school bussing on Early Release Days.
The Boys & Girls Club does NOT operate on Early Release Days.
If you want your student to ride a different bus home on those days, a student rerouting request must be on file through the bus company. The bus company will NOT accept changes called in on the day of an Early Release, even if it's an emergency. Please have a plan in place.

Wisconsin Immunization Requirements for the 2025-2026 School Year
FOR INCOMING KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS:
Wisconsin state law requires all students to show that they have received the following required immunizations or have a signed waiver on file within 30 days from the start of school:
FOR INCOMING 7TH GRADERS:
Wisconsin Student Immunization law requires a Tdap immunization, the adolescent combination vaccine that protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough), within 30 days from the start of the 7th grade school year.
Incoming 7th graders are also required to have their first dose of a MenACWY-containing immunization, which was added to the immunization requirements schedule to prevent outbreaks of meningitis disease in Wisconsin Public Schools, within 30 days from the start of the 7th grade school year.
If your child still needs any of these vaccinations, we encourage you to have your child immunized well before the school year starts to avoid the late summer rush at the Health Department or at your clinic. Please bring your updated immunization records with you to registration. Please contact Nurse Caitlin with any questions.
CFSD Illness Protocol:
Keep your student home if any of the following apply:
Temperature of 100.4 or higher. Need to be fever-free for 24 hours without any fever-reducing medication (Tylenol, ibuprofen) before returning to school.
Vomiting in the last 24 hours - Must be asymptomatic for 24 hours before returning to school.
Diarrhea (3 or more loose stools in a 24 hr period) - Must be asymptomatic for 24 hours before returning to school.
Diagnosed with a contagious disease (strep throat, impetigo, etc) and have not been on antibiotics for 24 hours.
Has an unexplained rash that is widespread or is draining and unable to be covered by a bandage.
Ronald McDonald House Poptabs
You can still bring in all of your aluminum pop tabs before summer!
Poptabs are collected to donate to the Ronald McDonald House Charity. They recycle them and use that money to support the Ronald McDonald houses. Those houses give families a place to stay while their children are hospitalized.

On Site Chiropractic
Wrapping up the school year can cause extra stress. Neck pain, muscle tightness, headaches and fatigue are all symptoms of stress, even in children. Chiropractic adjustments help the spine release the tension held in muscles, which relaxes the body, reducing stress.
Contact us at onsitechiroinfo@gmail.com if you’d like us to help your child wrap up the school year with chiropractic care.
Did you know that we offer care to students during the summer months as well? Our team of doctors have specific hours over the summer to continue care for all our school chiropractic students. Let us know if you have any questions by emailing or call 715-382-6864.

2024-2025 CFSD Calendar
If you would like to volunteer to help out in the classroom or go on any field trips, you must fill out the proper online form. Please click HERE to be taken to our Volunteer Information webpage. Please note that once the online form is submitted, it could take up to 2 weeks to fully process so please allow ample time before you volunteer for the first time. The link is always open so feel free to fill it out at your earliest convenience.
If you will be volunteering in a classroom or chaperoning on a field trip, please make child care arrangements for your younger children. When you are volunteering, you will be responsible for supervising specific students and we need your attention directed to those students at all times. This means that we are NOT able to allow for siblings to attend school sponsored field trips. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
The district adopted a new volunteer management system last spring so many parents are already on file and approved to volunteer for the 2024-25 school year. That approval is good for 1 year so for those parents that are already in the new system, you will get an email 30 days prior to its expiration date, reminding you to reapply. The email will come from RAPTOR TECHNOLOGIES and will go to the email address that they have on file for you.
Students, parents, school staff, or community members can submit a school safety concern or threat via the Speak Up Speak Out WI website, mobile phone app, or toll-free number. For More information, click here!
