In Our House - Administrator's Message In Our House - Administrator's Message

I am grateful for the many moments that make our school such a special place. From the learning taking place in our classrooms to the kindness, curiosity, and connections shared throughout our school community, there is so much to celebrate. Thank you to our Staff, Students, and Families for the care and commitment you bring to our school each day.

As we welcome November, we know the days are growing shorter, the weather is turning colder, and the busyness of the school year continues. The November break is a wonderful time for Students to slow down and recharge.

November also reminds us of the importance of gratitude, compassion, and remembrance as we honour those who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms. Through these moments, we can help our Students understand the importance of kindness, courage, respect, and caring for one another.

Here's to an outstanding November!

Health and wellness everyone,

Richard Cowan, B.A., B.Ed., M.Ed.

Superintendent Letter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Subject: Fall Update

As we settle into the fall season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the great start to our 2026–27 school year. It has been wonderful to see students and staff reconnect, establish routines, and engage in the many learning opportunities available across the division.

This year, we continue to focus on BRSD’s three priorities outlined in our 2026–30 Education Plan: Learning Success for All; Student and Staff Well-Being, Mental Health and Belonging; and Preparing Students for Adulthood and Future Pathways. These priorities guide our work, providing a framework for every student to learn, grow and succeed.

Priority 1: Learning Success for All

Throughout September, our schools completed literacy and numeracy screening assessments to help identify student strengths and areas where additional support may be needed. This information helps teachers plan targeted instruction and organize intervention groups to respond to students' individual learning needs. As the year progresses, we will continue to monitor student growth and adjust supports to help our learners experience success.

Priority 2: Student and Staff Well-Being, Mental Health and Belonging

Creating safe, caring and respectful learning environments remains a priority across BRSD. At the beginning of the school year, students learned about their responsibilities in contributing to positive school environments, treating others with respect, and understanding where to go for help. We have reinforced the importance of speaking with a trusted adult when students need support or have concerns about something happening to themselves or others.

We have also reinforced our expectations regarding cellphone use during instructional time and provided learning about responsible technology use, digital citizenship and appropriate behaviour on social media. These are important conversations as we work together to help students make positive choices, both in person and online.

As we move into November and December, our schools will continue this meaningful work with a focus on helping students and staff better understand conflict and bullying, how to recognize and respond to concerning behaviour, and the role we all play in creating safe and supportive spaces. Our goal is to ensure that every student feels safe, valued, connected and supported at school.

Priority 3: Preparing Students for Adulthood and Future Pathways

Learning extends well beyond the classroom, and we are pleased to see students participating in a wide range of meaningful experiences. Our students have been involved in cross-country running, volleyball, football, golf, student councils and many other activities that help develop leadership, teamwork, confidence and a sense of belonging.

In addition, career fairs, work experience, the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), and dual credit opportunities are well underway. These experiences help students explore their interests, develop practical skills and make informed decisions about their future pathways.

As we continue through the school year, our commitment to these three priorities remains strong. We recognize that student success and well-being are strengthened when schools and families work together.

We encourage parents and guardians to stay connected with their child's learning, have conversations at home about respectful behaviour and responsible technology use, and reinforce the shared expectation that every student and staff member has a responsibility to contribute to a positive, safe and caring school environment.

Thank you for your continued partnership, collaboration, encouragement and support. We look forward to the learning, growth and accomplishments that the coming months will bring.

Sincerely,

Natasha Wilm
