MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Fowler Family,

Our 6th grade students will depart for outdoor school this Tuesday and we will miss their smiling faces around the building for the next four days. We certainly hope they enjoy their time learning about science in the natural outdoor habitat.

While the 6th graders are away, we will begin to implement the new hall sweep protocol we shared via email on Friday. Students who are in their classroom on time will thrive because they are present and ready to learn, students who are not demonstrating responsible behavior will win additional conversations with administrators that will be followed by phone calls and/or after school detention if they are not making learning top priority in their school experience. Please have a conversation with your student prior to Tuesday about the importance of timeliness. As much as we do love our Fowler parents, our goal is to NOT be calling you due to your child being late to class. For our official policy/practice, please see the link attached here.

Fowler Middle School has great students and the overwhelming majority of our kids do the right thing every day. We look forward to our students responding well to our focus on successful attendance as that should also help them increase their grades and learning.

Have a great week, Fowler!

Andy

HAPPENINGS

Reminder: Clocks moved forward one hour this morning.

Homework Help does continue this week, but will take a break until Spring After School Activities begin. Affinity Groups and REAP will run through March 23.

Our 8th graders will be doing Science testing during their Science classes this week. Please make sure that your student gets adequate sleep, a good breakfast and that their iPad is charged 100% each morning. We appreciate you partnering with us to ensure they are fully prepared.

Sweep Protocol - Goal is to improve on time behavior! We are seeing increasing numbers of students who are intentionally finding ways to arrive late to class. Being tardy to class impacts instruction, takes away from learning, and erodes the culture of education. With the exception of one bell during the lunch window, we include a full musical minute over our intercoms to remind students to get to class on time. There is not a single location in the building that would prevent a student from getting from point A to point B in a 5 minute window. To help clarify our expectations and allow those expectations to sink in, we will begin locking classroom doors when the bell rings for class to start. If students are not in their classroom when the bell rings, they will be escorted by admin/support staff to the commons for a recalibration conversation followed by consequences if their timeliness does not improve. Please see the link in Mr. Van Fleet’s message above for even more information.

6th GRADE PARENTS - OUTDOOR SCHOOL INFORMATION

Tuesday is the big day!

  • On Tuesday, March 14, students will need to be dropped off at school between 8:30-8:45am. They may not ride their school bus to school due to the gear they will be bringing. Please do not drop off students early, and do not park in the front of the building as our buses will be arriving with 7th and 8th grade students. We encourage carpooling, if possible. Buses will leave for Outdoor School at 9:15am - DO NOT BE LATE!

PSO

Thank you for treating us so well!

A great big thank you to our PSO for the amazing breakfast spread they provided for our entire staff in recognition of our classified employees. It truly was above and beyond our expectations, and no one walked away hungry. Thank you!

PSO meets this Thursday evening, March 16, in the Fowler Library at 6:30pm. All are welcome - please join us!

It's time for our Coins for Kids Fundraiser, March 20-24, 2023

What exactly does that mean? Start setting aside your loose change! Send it to school March 20-24 and watch the dollars add up! Our goal is to raise $1,000 in four days to help support the TTSD Foundation and the incredible work it does. The Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools supports ALL district schools with grants for more teachers, after school programs, and more…so the coins come right back to help us! There will be incentives to encourage participation…stay tuned for more information.
