April Focus

Below are a few areas to focus on for April:

Turnaround Leadership

  • Exhibiting empathy is a key component of a trustworthy leader. It is important to practice empathy all the time, however, during the stressful months at the end of school it is especially important. Being intentionally aware of others feelings, displaying genuine concern, listening without rebuttal, and helping develop a collaborative path for everyone to move forward are all traits of an empathetic leader.

Talent Development

  • As you are thinking about what your staff will look like for next year, a Teacher Preference Form can provide valuable information. Seeking input from your staff regarding their plans, preferences, and needs for the upcoming school year demonstrates that you value the opinions of your staff. Providing opportunities for your staff to have a voice in school decisions creates the type of collaborative culture that encourages staff retention.

Instructional Transformation

  • How effective are your interventions? Are your Tier II interventions helping more students demonstrate mastery of grade-level standards? Are your Tier III interventions improving the foundational deficits of your students at an accelerated rate? As you conduct your end of year data meetings you are not only analyzing how your students are performing, but also reflecting on what instructional practices are working best, and the effectiveness of the intervention programs being utilized.

Culture Shifts
  • What you celebrate sends a powerful message to both those in the school and throughout the community regarding what is valued the most. What is celebrated at your school? Do you have celebrations for school-wide accomplishments, as well as, individual recognition? Would a visitor be able to walk your campus while no one is there and determine what your school recognizes and celebrates?
