LO Sustainability Resource Fair

LOHS and LHS students shared what they are learning in school at the 2nd annual LO Sustainability Resource Fair. Students from the new Sustainability elective as well as Green Team and other clubs spoke about issues they are passionate about solving such as biodiversity loss, climate change and food waste. If you are a student or parent interested in these issues, join a class or club or reach out to LOSD Sustainability TOSA Larry Zurcher (zurcherl@loswego.k12.or.us) and he can connect you to various ways to make our school community more sustainable.

Do you have a child graduating from LOHS?

Join us for a free parent education class and get five legal documents ready that will help you if your child plans on leaving for college!

Presented by past LOHS parent and attorney Michelle-Shari Kruss

When: 5/2/23

Time: 5:30-6:30

Where: Lake Oswego High School Cafeteria

Senior year is a whirlwind filled with visiting colleges, planning and participating in a myriad of senior activities, AP exams, and more. As a family, you have asked and answered questions like, “What college should our soon-to-be graduate go to, or what equally exciting alternative adventure awaits? For the past 18 years, you have been able to be involved in every facet of making these and other important decisions.

Unfortunately, once your child turns 18 they are considered an adult in the eyes of the law. As such, a parent's legal ability to assist with; a medical decision, communicate with a child's physician, negotiate/inquire with an insurance company, address a financial transaction, represent a child in a legal matter, dispute a fraud, transfer medical records, deal with a digital asset (computers, logins, online banking, iCloud, etc.) or speak with academics ends.

You can still have a seat at the table. But to do so you need to complete a few very important legal documents.

Michelle-Shari will be sharing some very eye-opening stories of her young adult clients who have needed one or more of these legal documents.

  • Power of Attorney for Health. Physician Advance Directive
  • Power of Attorney for Finance
  • HIPAA Release Form
  • FERPA
  • Digital Asset Worksheet
  • Temporary Guardianship Affidavit for those of us who will not be empty nesters and still have a minor child at home.

Everyone is welcome. Come with your questions. Handouts will be provided.

ACS Mock Interview Program

As a culmination of their ACS class, LOHS freshmen create a resume and learn how to interview for an entry-level job. We need many volunteers to make this an effective program and empower our students with practical skills. This is one of the few volunteer opportunities that enables you to be in the classroom at LOHS. We will be hosting the ACS Mock Interview program for six ACS periods of second semester students from May 18-23, 2023 in person at Lake Oswego High School.

Volunteers on Thursday and Friday, May 18 and 19, will work with small groups of students in the classroom to practice for a job interview with a pre-set curriculum. Volunteers on Monday and Tuesday, May 22 and 23, will interview students individually for a typical entry-level high school job.

To volunteer, please complete two steps:

1. Sign up for Mock Interview Program volunteer slots here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0B4EADAC2CA6F49-lohs5

2. Complete a volunteer background check if you have not completed one this school year (check boxes for all schools where you would like to volunteer) here. It only takes 5 minutes to complete but can take a few weeks to get approved, so please complete it ASAP: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/MjIwOTplbi1VUw==

Lake Oswego Youth Leadership Council

Calling all Lakers! This year, the Lake Oswego Youth Leadership Council (YLC) designed our annual capstone project to improve sustainability and ecological awareness in our community. The YLC is a youth group composed of high school students from across Lake Oswego that influences city council goals, learns about and affects local government, and designs a culminating project to reflect youth voice. Although Lake Oswego is a relatively green city, climate change, pollution, and other environmental issues are at the core of national and global discussion today. We believe it's our power as the YLC to educate the next generation of youth on these essential issues, and we wanted to achieve this through an engaging and fun activity, "Bumblebee Bingo". This project involves a bingo board of sustainability-related activities for elementary and middle schoolers to complete and serves as an effective step towards an environmentally-minded community. Please visit this link to learn more about the project, and spread the word! The more kids participate, the healthier the city we call home becomes.

Way to go Model United Nations!

Model United Nations club had a successful in-person SpringCon! For the first time in four years students were able to return to the home of the conference at the University of Oregon. There they debated and solved world problems while representing four countries (Russia, Ethiopia, Peru, Italy) and the Holy See. Senior Brooke Plasse (Russia) took home a Best Consensus Builder award in the Human Rights Committee, while junior Theo Iverson (Russia) won Best Country Representative in the Security Council. Students competed for another "Big Five" nation and next year LOHS will get to represent the United States! A big thank you to our leadership team for their mentorship to new delegates through the addition of context-building activities this year that helped students better understand their nations' role in world affairs: Brooke Plasse (President), Dylan Dougherty (Vice President), Joshua Tae (Treasurer), Eliana Choi (Secretary) and Liam Aranda-Michel (Publicities). Finally, congratulations to all the delegates and we wish our graduating seniors the best as they go out into the world as global citizens!

Ways to report incidents related to bias, racism or harassment in losd

Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources. SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools. Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense. https://www.safeoregon.com/

In addition, below are reporting methods for parents-guardians or students to use to report issues related to racist, bias, or harassment incidents.
