The Principal's Perspective
Lions are the BEST! Week of September 16th
Celebrating 50 YEARS!
We had the awesome opportunity on Friday after school to host 20 Nichols alum celebrating their 50th year Anniversary! They got the chance to tour Nichols, to interact with some of our wonderful 7th graders and our 7th grade counselor, Ms. D. The group was so amazed at how different things are now and they were so impressed by our 7th grade tour guides who did an AWESOME job sharing news about Nichols. It was so fun hearing their histories. One of the guests said to me "I was school President and I am the reason why you can wear pants in Nichols!" He started a petition for the girls to be allowed to wear pants and WON! It was so much fun to be a part of this- they are walking history books! What a time we had!! Happy Hispanic Heritage Month 2024
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! This celebration and acknowledgement runs from September 15th-October 15th. We observe this month in order to celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and wonderful contributions of those whose ancestors are from Mexico, Spain, Central and South America and the Caribbean. This observance began in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded under President Ronald Reagan. The reason why the observance begins on September 15th is because it is the anniversary of Independence for many Latin American countries such as Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras. Additionally Mexico and Chili celebrate independence on September 16th and 18th, respectively. Many of our students, families, and staff members are of Hispanic Heritage- we celebrate and acknowledge you!

Life skills Group
Is your student interested in learning more about life skills they need to navigate society as a teen and young adult?
The Nichols Family and Community Engagement team is partnering with the City of Evanston Youth Outreach team to offer a weekly life skills lunch group each Wednesday. This lunch group will explore issues around responsibility, integrity, relationships, and other characteristics of a productive adult member of our community. The weekly lunch sessions will begin September 25th.
Participation in the group is open to all students but space is limited. Groups will be arranged by grade level and occur during each of the three Wednesday lunch periods.
While there is no fee or cost to register, completion of the attached, signed participant waiver form is required for your student to participate.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact John Brownlee, FACE liaison, at brownleej@district65.net.
