Dear Leander High School students and parents,
Here at LHS, we consider the safety and well-being of our students to be of the utmost importance. For that reason, I wanted to connect with you about an incident that has impacted our school community.
Last semester, the campus received information regarding potential inappropriate contact between a student and a teacher. As soon as the district received this information, Michael Winters, an LHS Special Education teacher, was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation conducted by the Leander Police Department and Child Protective Services.
We have been notified that Mr. Winters has been arrested for improper relationship between an educator and student, a second-degree felony. He has been on administrative leave throughout the investigations and remains on administrative leave at this time.
Out of respect for privacy concerns and the ongoing legal process, we regret that we cannot disclose further details now. We have arranged for highly qualified staff to support the continuity of instruction and services for our students. If you have concerns about your child's well-being or academic progress, our administrative and counseling staff is here to provide support and assistance.
At Leander High and within Leander ISD, we take every misconduct allegation seriously and respond accordingly. We encourage you to promptly report any incidents of inappropriate or unethical behavior within our schools to a member of our leadership team or local law enforcement or by utilizing the Anonymous Alerts program.
We expect nothing less than the highest standards of conduct and accountability. That means your trust and partnership are invaluable to us. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. We sincerely appreciate your ongoing support of Leander High School.
Sincerely,
Chris Simpson
Principal, Leander High School
