FHS Summer School 2023

Forsyth High School will have six types of summer school offerings.

1. Personal Finance and Health courses: These optional courses are for students going into the 10th / 11th Grades next school year. These courses are offered through LAUNCH and will be taught online. Students will not come to campus to complete these courses. Students who have taken these courses in the past have reported they are quite rigorous and any student who opts to take these courses should be prepared to spend a minimum of 3 hours a day on each course. There is a limited number of open slots available, so reply ASAP. Session is from June 5 – June 30.

2. Credit Recovery: These courses are for any student who needs to re-take a core class (math, science, English, & history). All credit recovery summer school courses will be taught through the Edgenuity learning program facilitated by FHS teachers. Students will complete modules online to receive course credit. These are seated courses from May 30 – June 21 (8 am – 3:20 pm).

3. Drivers Education: Drivers Education will be offered starting May 30th at Forsyth High School. All students enrolled will receive five days of class instruction followed by driving instruction. Students must be 15 years of age by May 30th. Students must have a drivers permit prior to starting the class.

4. Music Appreciation/Guitar Class: Rock and Blues Guitar Music:

Do you enjoy listening to rock, blues, pop, or country music? Have you ever wondered how different styles of music got to be popular? Did you know that music reflects what is going on in the nation and the world, but that it has also influenced the cultural climate throughout history?
If you’re curious about any of those things—or even if you just want to earn a fine arts credit—the upcoming summer school session is your chance to get some great historical and cultural knowledge while having fun and maybe picking up a few guitar skills at the same time!
Join Mr. Thomas for a look at the history of blues and rock and roll music, and how early artists continue to influence musicians today. We’ll see how some key historical events helped lead to different music styles. We’ll also learn basic music theory and apply it to learning some guitar concepts from the music we study and listen to.
Some beginning guitar experience is helpful for this class but not required, and guitars are available for classroom use, so just bring yourself and your desire to have fun learning about our musical culture. These are seated courses from May 30 – June 21 (8 am – 3:20 pm).

5. Attendance Recovery: Students may attend summer school to make up their attendance deficiencies. Attendance recovery is from May 30 – June 21 (8 am – 3:20 pm).

6. ACT Boot Camp: See Dr. Guy

Students interested in summer school must sign up in the HS Office before May 19th
