Weekly Update # 12 - November 3-7
Where Little Panther Cubs Begin BIG Journeys
From the Principal
This is how we Take Chances, Make Mistakes and Get Messy! Our little Panther Cubs are learning to ROAR with pride and how “we do school”!
🦃 Week 12: Gratitude, Giving, and Growing!
What a wonderful week we’ve had at Luce Road! Our Fall Harvest Celebration was a huge success — thank you to all our families who joined the fun. The laughter, crafts, and community spirit made it a truly special day. 🍁
This week, many classrooms have been busy exploring science experiments — from mixing colors and observing reactions to learning how things grow and move! Our Panther Cubs have been curious, hands-on, and full of wonder. 🔬✨
As we move deeper into November, please remember to dress your child for the colder weather. Layers, coats, and hats help keep everyone warm and ready for outdoor learning and play. 🧣🧤
November is our Month of Gratitude. Students will be learning what it means to be thankful — for family, friends, teachers, and the little moments that make our days bright. Classrooms will be sharing ways to show gratitude through kind words, helpful actions, and notes of appreciation.
This month is also Homeless Awareness Month. To help our students connect kindness to action, we’re kicking off our “Coins for a Cause” drive. Every penny collected will go toward supporting local shelters and families in need. It’s a simple, powerful way for our Panther Cubs to make a difference! 💛
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students learn, grow, and ROAR with respect, responsibility, and kindness every day.

THE WEATHER IS CHANGING
Dressing for the Weather
🧥 Dress for the Weather
Please help your child come to school dressed for the changing fall weather. Our Panther Cubs go outside 3 to 4 times a day, and mornings can be chilly.
-
Check the weather each morning to help your child dress appropriately.
-
Send a jacket or hoodie and closed-toe shoes every day.
-
Students are expected to go outside each time, so being prepared helps them stay comfortable and focused.
-
Label all items with your child’s name so we can return lost items quickly.
Thank you for helping keep our Cubs comfy, safe, and ready to play all day long! 🐾
🍂🍁 Fall Festival 🍁🍂
Thank you for the great turn out. Over 75% of families turned out today to support our Fall Festival! It was so great to see all of you ! The Luce Road Staff appreciates the engagement .
🏆 Responsible Challenge Winners 🏆
This month, our Luce Road students showed amazing responsibility both in and out of the classroom! Each classroom voted for one peer who consistently demonstrates responsibility—by taking care of materials, helping friends, following routines, and being a great role model. Congratulations to our October Responsible Challenge winners! We’re proud of the leadership and kindness you show every day. 🌟

Science Fun at Luce Road
🧪 Cauldron Science Magic!
Our Young Fives turned into little scientists this week as they mixed up a spooky science experiment! Using mini cauldrons, baking soda, and vinegar, the children watched in excitement as their “potions” bubbled, fizzed, and foamed over. They made predictions, mixed ingredients, and discovered what happens when science and Halloween magic combine. It was a boo-tiful blend of learning and fun!
💰🪙 Coins for a Cause 🪙💰
November is Homeless Awareness Month. We are partnering with United Way to participate in Coins for a Cause—a fun, school-wide coin wars challenge that raises both funds and awareness for our local homeless shelters:
Gratiot County Hope House
Isabella County Restoration House (ICRH)
Have Mercy (serving Montcalm & Ionia Counties)
Here is how it works:
Classrooms collect coins to support local homeless shelters.
United Way matches funds raised (up to $5,000 per shelter).
Winning classrooms earn a pizza party!
Last year, classrooms raised more than $11,300 in coins, and over $22,600 total went to local shelters with United Way’s match.
Important Notes to Parents
🧡 Calling All Parent Volunteers!
We love having our Luce Road families be part of the fun! If you’re interested in volunteering at the school—whether it’s helping in classrooms, assisting with events, or supporting special projects—your time and enthusiasm make a huge difference.
Please reach out to the office or your child’s teacher to learn how you can get involved. Thank you for helping make Luce Road such a warm and supportive community for our students!
Labeling Student Belongings
Parents and guardians, please label your Panther Cub’s belongings, including backpack, coat, lunch box, and water bottle. Our Lost and Found is filling up, and labeled items can be returned quickly. Thank you for your help!
Clothing
Please make sure you send a change of clothes in for your student. Sometimes accidents happen and it’s helpful for them to have a change of clothes.
Please make sure ALL of your student’s belongings are labeled with their name! If it gets lost, staff will know who to return it to!
