Dear Parents/Guardians,

Happy October!

I am so excited about the Best Foot Forward assemblies for the students on Monday, October 3rd! I watched every episode of Best Foot Forward, and the series is amazing. The content is emotionally touching and thought provoking, with valuable lessons within the storylines about a family and middle school child navigating through life's celebrations and sometimes unique challenges. The actors within the series including KRS parent Joy Suprano as the mother, are wonderful! To learn more about the Best Foot Forward series, refer to this incredible PTO publication for information.

Within this newsletter, is information from school counselor Mr. Levine about Respect Week. Next week, schools are closed on October 5, 2022 for Yom Kippur. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathy Koop

Bus Drills this Week

Every class participated in a bus drill on Wednesday. The drills included a review of bus safety rules and exiting through the emergency door in the back of the bus. The students were wonderful! Thank you to head custodian Mr. Alfano for assisting with the bus safety drills.

Little Free Library - KRS Reading Specialist Mrs. Sims

Did you know KRS has a Little Free Library on its front lawn? Last year we were finally able to install our Little Free Library through a generous grant from the Madison Educational Foundation (MEF). Please stop by and see if any of the books are to your liking. It is a completely free resource within our community that extends beyond the KRS families. Donate what you are done with, and take a new book or two to enjoy! The library is located just below the parking lot to the left of the driveway. Look for the little red schoolhouse design!

“The Leaves are Green”

Anonymous

The leaves are green

The nuts are brown,

They hang so high

They will not come down.

Leave them alone

Till frosty weather,

Then they will all

Come down together.

The 2022-23 KRS COUGAR READING CHALLENGE BEGINS THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1!

  • This year-long reading challenge is completely optional and a fun way to get our students reading at home!

  • Each month, students should keep track of how many minutes they are reading at home on this calendar.

    • Those minutes can include reading you are doing for reading logs, homework, minutes spent listening to an audiobook or read aloud on the computer (such as bookflix), or minutes spent being read to by an adult. This is not an extra assignment- If you are reading for homework, include that reading here too!

  • Each month, there are different challenges to complete that can earn you an extra 100 minutes to add to your total!

  • At the end of the month, add up all of your minutes!
