๐๐ปโโ๏ธGirls on the Run Club๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
We are excited to offer Girls on the Run to our fourth grade students this spring! This empowering program is designed to inspire girls to build confidence, make healthy choices, and develop a strong sense of selfโall while having fun and staying active. We will have club after school every Wednesday and Friday from 3:20-4:30.
Throughout the program, participants take part in engaging lessons that combine running with activities and games focused on teamwork, decision-making, and conflict resolution. Girls are encouraged and supported at all fitness levels as they grow physically and emotionally alongside their peers.
The season will culminate in an optional 5K run/walk event in Somerville on June 7, 2026, where participants can celebrate their accomplishments together. (Families will receive more details as the event approaches; parents/guardians must accompany children to this public event.)
We look forward to a meaningful and fun experience for all of our participants!
๐ง Water Line Replacement Project: N. 13th Avenue
A water line replacement project is scheduled to begin on North 13th Avenue (between Brooks Blvd and Dukes Pkwy) on or about Monday, March 16, 2026. The project is expected to last 6 to 8 weeks.
How this affects our school community:
Daytime Traffic & Detours: Phase 1 begins March 16. During the day, North 13th Ave will be closed between Dukes Pkwy and Bleecher St. All traffic will be diverted to North 10th Ave.
Minimizing School Disruption: To keep our learning environment quiet and safe, any work that significantly impacts the school property will be limited to nighttime hours and scheduled school breaks.
Drop-off & Pick-up: If you access ABIS from the North, you must use North 10th Ave and Bleecher St to reach the school.
Please allow extra travel time and drive safely through the detour zones.

๐ Weekly Highlights
๐ Best Wishes to Mrs. Cuas ๐

Thank you Ms. Cuas for everything you do to support the students, staff, and families here at Roosevelt! Wishing you all the best as you and your family soon welcome a new BABY!
We will miss you!
โ๐ป Leadership Peacemakers
Our Leadership Council members are officially Peace Makers at Roosevelt School! They have successfully completed two months of training on peer mediation skills. They have shown they know and understand the process of how to mediate a conflict and find win-win solutions. These students will be "working" at recess until the end of the school year to help make our school community a more positive place. We are incredibly proud of them!
NJ Transit Train Assembly๐
Thank you to the MSD Security Team for organizing a 45 minute train safety assembly through our partners at NJ TRANSIT. This safety education program focused on the need for safe behavior and caution around rail systems. Some of the important SAFETY RULES students learned during the program are:
- No trespassing
- Stay alert
- Obey signs and signals
- Cross at designated areas only
- Stand behind the safety line on station platforms
๐ Counselor's Corner
โจ March Counseling Focus: Trustworthiness & Positive Affirmations
This month, Roosevelt students are learning about trustworthiness and the power of positive affirmations during their counseling lessons.
- 3rd graders are creating a Chain of Trust to explore how trust connects us.
- 4th graders are building Trustworthy Friendship Kits to understand what makes a reliable friend.
Through these activities, students will discuss:
โ๏ธ What it means to trust someone
โ๏ธ When itโs okay to share a secret (especially when safety is a concern)
โ๏ธ How positive thinking strengthens friendships
โ๏ธ Choosing a positive affirmation to encourage self-confidence
๐ก Conversation Starters for Home:
- Ask your child what they like about themselves and which affirmation they chose.
- Talk about the difference between tattling and telling (reporting concerns for safety).
- Discuss ways they can build trust with friends, teachers, and family members.
Encouraging these conversations at home will help reinforce the values of trust and positivity in their daily lives! ๐

๐ซ Main Office Reminders
Office Hours & Chain of Command
To ensure we can support every student and family effectively, please keep the following information in mind regarding our office hours and communication:
Office Hours: Our main office is open and ready to assist you from 8:15 AM to 4:15 PM.
Planning Your Visit: To ensure the right staff member is available to give you their full attention, we kindly ask that you schedule an appointment before coming to the school. This helps us keep our building secure and our schedules organized.
Ways to Connect: We welcome communication via phone, voicemail, email, and/or ParentSquare.
Response Time: We value your outreach! Please keep in mind that our staff follows a response window of 24 hours of the next business day for all messages and inquiries. We appreciate your patience as we work to get back to everyone.
Getting Help: Our Chain of Command
When you have a question or concern, the fastest way to get a resolution is to follow the district's "Chain of Command." This ensures you are speaking directly with the staff member who has firsthand knowledge of the situation.
๐ป Genesis Parent Portal
Just a friendly reminder on how to keep the school updated regarding your child's schedule! You can easily report changes via the Attendance module or the link on the Student Data-Summary screen:
Reporting an Absence? Use the Notify Attendance screen.
Picking up Early? Use the Daily Pickup Release screen.
Note: To ensure our staff has enough time to coordinate, please submit or change any early release requests no later than 12:00 PM.
๐ Attendance Matters
The Power of Routine: Attendance is a Habit!
As we move through March, we want to highlight how a consistent morning routine sets our students up for success! Whether your child is joining us for breakfast or heading straight to class, arriving on time is the best way to start the day.
Key Morning Reminders:
Arrival Time: Doors open at 8:25 AM for breakfast arrival.
The First Few Minutes: Teachers use the start of the day to set the stage for lessons and share important announcements. Arriving by 8:35 AM ensures your child doesn't miss these "pro-tips" for the day!
Social Connections: Being here on time allows students to participate in morning meetings and build vital social bonds with their peers.
Reduced Stress: A calm entry into the building helps students maintain focus and reduces "tardy anxiety."
Thank you for your partnership in making sure our students are here, on time, and ready to shine every single day!
๐จ Attendance Reminder: Families are encouraged to plan vacations around our scheduled school breaks. Please keep in mind that family travel is not considered an excused absence and will be reflected in your childโs total attendance record.
