QE Parent/Guardian Weekly Update
September 18, 2026
Hello QE Families!
What a great week it’s been across our school community! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our revamped Back-to-School Night—the family-centered atmosphere and interactive scavenger hunt brought positive energy throughout the classrooms and halls. We also held our first parent meeting of the year, where it was wonderful connecting with parents to reflect on our strong start and look ahead at upcoming events. Behind the scenes, our teachers gathered for a productive faculty meeting to review student data and collaborate to design targeted activities and personalized learning paths for our WIN ("What I Need") time. To wrap up a busy, successful week, we hope you all enjoy a well-deserved three-day weekend with Monday off in observance of Yom Kippur, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready to learn on Tuesday!

Dr. B’s Top 3 Showing Pride at QE
Each week, Dr. Bubser was looking for QE Pride (Perseverance, Respect, Control, Dependability, and Effort). Check out the top three from last week!
Nina, Lily, and Cassidee, three of our amazing 5th graders, showed QE PRIDE during our first assembly. They were true role models and leaders for others. They gave their golden ticket to a student who truly deserved it. Thank you Nina, Lily, and Cassidee for being so dependable and reminding us all of what QE PRIDE is all about.
Charlotte in Mrs. Starry’s class showed QE PRIDE by helping a friend who needed some support at recess. Charlotte was kind, patient, and respectful. I was so impressed with her effort to help her friend in need. Way to go Charlotte!
Liam in Mrs. McNamara’s class has been showing QE PRIDE in the cafeteria. He is very polite and careful during lunch. I have heard him say please and thank you to the adults in the cafeteria. Great job being respectful Liam.
Attendance Procedures
Here is a link to QCSD’s Attendance Procedures. All absences are required to be reported, and QCSD uses SafeArrival as our absence management system. If you have not set up an account yet, please do so at https://go.schoolmessenger.com. Parents can report their child’s absence 24 hours/7 days a week and future absences can be reported at any time.
QE PRIDE
In order for our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework to be successful at QE, we need your help. Below is a list of suggestions of how you can help support PBIS:
Remind your child of the QE PRIDE Expectations: We will show PERSEVERANCE, We will show RESPECT, We will be IN CONTROL, We will show DEPENDABILITY, We will show EFFORT!
Use the same language that is being used at school with your child. Develop a behavior matrix at home using the QE PRIDE Expectations. List all the routines in your home and then write the behaviors you want to see in that setting.
Ask your child(ren) if they received any PRIDE tickets each week and how they earned them. Reinforce the positive behaviors that they are showing at school.
If you are contacted because your child has not followed the QE Expectations, please review the behavior expectations at home.
Our partnership with you is so important to us. Thank you for talking with your child about what QE PRIDE means to them and how they can show it both at home and at school.
Picture Day
Smile! Picture Day is coming. Students will have their school picture taken on Wednesday, September 30th. See the picture day flyer below with details.
New Traffic Sign
You may have noticed a new DO NOT ENTER sign that was installed for specific hours of school operation. This sign is located at the end of S. 7th Street past the high school and toward the track and Sixth Grade Center. These hours will be enforced so please be aware of this.
Classroom Diagnostic Tools (CDT) Assessment
Starting next week, our students in grades 3-5 will be participating in the Pennsylvania Classroom Diagnostic Tools (CDT) assessment. Unlike a traditional test, the CDT is a computer-adaptive tool designed to give teachers a detailed snapshot of each student’s academic strengths and areas where they might need extra support or enrichment. The goal is simply to help us tailor our instruction to better meet your child's individual learning needs.
Please see the attached document, Information for Educators, Parents, or Guardians, for a complete overview of what to expect, how computer-adaptive testing works, and how this data is used.
Band and Orchestra sign-ups
Welcome back to school! If your student is interested in playing an instrument in the band (4th and 5th grade) or orchestra (3rd, 4th, and 5th grade), instrument sign-ups are open until Friday September 18. Please visit qcsd.org/music for more information and click on the yellow banner at the top of the page to register for band or orchestra. You can also reach out to QE's band teacher Mr. Murmylo (mmurmylo@qcsd.org) or orchestra teacher Mr. Wolfe (twolfe@qcsd.org).
Parent Organization - Partners in Education (PIE)
Thanks to those who came to our first PIE meeting this week. We had a great discussion about the start of the school year and heard from our teacher representative, Mrs. Bolks. Our next meeting is Wednesday, October 21st (6:30pm - 8:00pm).
We are in need of Parent/Guardian Volunteers to help in the Library. We have books that need to be reshelved. Please email me at jbubser@qcsd.org if you are interested and we can create a schedule that works for you! Here is the link to review the necessary volunteer clearances.

About Us
At QE, we challenge our students academically and behaviorally through our state-recognized Positive Behavior Support Program, P.R.I.D.E. QE students are taught to persevere, show respect, be in control, show dependability, and show effort in all school and life endeavors. We believe every child is a valued and treasured member of our school family. You can trust that we are fully committed to ensuring your child feels respected, safe, and supported in their growth. When families, educators, staff, and students work hand-in-hand, we create the strongest path for our children to thrive and achieve their highest potential.
