End of Year 2024

As we conclude another vibrant and productive school year we reflect on the remarkable journey filled with growth, achievements, and memorable moments that have strengthened our community and enriched the lives of our students.

To our students, your resilience, curiosity, and commitment to learning have been truly inspiring. You have navigated challenges, embraced opportunities, and demonstrated exceptional character both inside and outside the classroom. Whether it was excelling academically, participating in sports, or contributing to community service, your accomplishments are a testament to your determination and spirit.

To our teachers and staff, thank you for your tireless efforts, passion, and dedication to fostering an environment where every student can thrive. Your creativity, adaptability, and unwavering support have been instrumental in shaping the minds and hearts of our students. You have gone above and beyond to ensure that learning is meaningful, engaging, and accessible to all.

To our parents and guardians, your partnership and involvement in your children's education have been invaluable. Your support, encouragement, and active participation in school activities have greatly contributed to the success and well-being of our students. Thank you for being our trusted allies in nurturing the next generation of leaders.

As we look forward to a well-deserved summer break, we encourage everyone to take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy quality moments with loved ones. Reflect on the achievements of this year, and let them serve as a foundation for even greater success in the future. Lightspeed - One More Layer of Protection for Our Bobcats Lightspeed - One More Layer of Protection for Our Bobcats

zoom_out_map

Dear Bobcat Families,

During this past school year the District integrated an additional layer of student safety designed to monitor students online actively and internet search activity when using a district owned device or logged into their district owned student account. The monitoring system called Lightspeed, helps districts provide proactive student safety, allowing early intervention and more effective support to students in need. Combining online activity monitoring and risk analysis with human review and threat escalation, this solution enables schools to reach struggling students earlier and take life-changing steps to protect our community.

Students' online activity is monitored during the school year with intervention and response services in place so that teachers, counselors, and administrators can assist students who may need some level of intervention.

The safety of your child is of utmost importance, which serves as the foundation for us to share this information with you. We want you to know we are taking proactive steps to support our students and serve as a resource for the community that we serve. During the summer months, the Lightspeed monitoring system is deactivated, which will require more family engagement with monitoring of your child’s online activity.

The district is currently exploring additional tools and resources that may, in the future, allow for additional layers of online activity notification that can be expeditiously routed to a parent, guardian, or family member so that you can more effectively provide an appropriate intervention to your child. We appreciate your partnership with the district and look forward to continuing to support students and families in the 24-25 school year.

Grief Kits Created for Our K-3 Buildings Grief Kits Created for Our K-3 Buildings

Michelle Overmiller, counselor at York Haven Elementary, recognized the need to support families in our district who experience grief and loss. She brought this idea to Kelly Godshall, the district mental health professional and Sally Reed, School social worker, together they developed and will implement “Grief Kits." The kits will be provided to families in times of loss. Children may find it difficult to understand and express their emotions. The grief kits will provide tangible tools and local resources to support students and their families as they navigate their grief journey. Each item in the kit serves a unique purpose which includes a book, journal and pens, a photo frame, and a memory box. Our goal is to offer comfort, reflection, and long-term support to families in their time of need.

To honor Earth Day, Dr. Burns' biology classes created seed bombs. The students studied ecology as part of the curriculum and to celebrate Earth Day they created seed bombs that looked like the planet Earth. The "bombs" are filled with native wildflowers that will grow after they are planted. The wildflowers will provide critical habitat and resources for our pollinators and wildlife.

Bobcats Enjoy a Day of Fishing! Bobcats Enjoy a Day of Fishing!

The members of the Zeredatha White Rose Lodge #451 and members of the Starview Sportsmen’s Association hosted the 14th annual fishing derby on Saturday, April 20, 2024. The generous members of these clubs hosted 43 NESD students for a free day of fishing.

The school social worker and school counselors coordinated efforts to select the students and obtain needed permission and commitment from parents. Students met at Orendorf Elementary School where they ate breakfast and were assigned a Mason "fishing coach" for the day. The group of mentors and students were then transported to Starview Sportsmen’s Club where they began fishing from a fully stocked pond. After fishing, lunch was served and a presentation by Soaring Eagle in Manchester (Tae Kwon Do) took place. At the end of the day, every student took home any fish they caught as well as their own fishing rod!

This is a wonderful example of the way that the community is invested in being connected with the students of NESD. Despite the cooler temperatures and the threat of rain, everyone had a great time. Thank you Masonic Lodge and Starview Sportmen’s Association for a great day!

Orendorf Elementary 3rd Graders proposed to the PTO that they would like a Buddy Bench for our playground. The PTO collaborated with Republic Services to conduct a recycle program that allowed for us to receive a discounted bench for our playground. Students were fully vested in the program and earned the bench within a week and a half. Republic was an incredible partner for the program. Not only did they collect all the recyclable materials, they also brought a truck to the school to educate students about recycling; additionally they donated a second Buddy Bench to the school. This was an incredible collaboration with the school, PTO, and Republic Services. Students were super excited about receiving the bench and the entire journey to get there.
