Carnegie Chronicle
March 2025
Note from the Director
Dear community members and library supporters,
I hope you have been enjoying the warm weather as much as I have! We've been busy planning for great things coming up for Summer Reading, including new programs for adults, so stay tuned for those details soon. Spring Break is next week, and the wonderful folks from the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History are presenting a program about cameras and photography on Monday, March 24th at 2pm in Library Meeting Room 1 and the Library Garden. Everyone is welcome!
You may have heard that library funding is at risk. We are tracking several bills (see below) that would have detrimental effects on library services. We greatly appreciate any support our patrons can give by contacting representatives on these issues.
All my best,
Christina Danos
The Shiloh Museum of Ozark History is going on the road to area libraries for a Picture Perfect Break, featuring a fun and informative hands-on program about the history of photography,
including making a cyanotype photo to take home!
All ages are welcome to attend this free program in Library Meeting Room 1 and the Library Garden!

Advocacy Alert
A list of current legislation that will negatively affect libraries if passed:
* The Joint Budget Committee of the Arkansas Legislature met this morning to consider an Amendment to HB1127 which would ban funding for local libraries that have any involvement with the American Library Association (ALA). This would include the trainings, conferences, policies, studies, publications, and professional development for librarians’ professional association. Thankfully, it failed in the committee this time, but the sponsor says it will be introduced again.
* SB181 - Amends the library law to remove the requirement of a Master's Degree for the State Librarian and Regional Library System Administrators. This could allow unqualified persons to fill these important leadership roles.
*PASSED 3/3/25
* SB184 - To abolish the State Library Board and transfer its powers and duties to the Department of Education. This would remove the programs, guidance, and oversight that the State Library Board provides to all the libraries in the state.
*IN HOUSE COMMITTEE
*President Trump signed an Executive Order that would eliminate the only federal agency dedicated to funding library services, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
