Welcome Back!

Hello Hawks Families,

What an incredible first week of school! There was such great energy throughout CPHS as we welcomed students back into our classrooms, hallways, and activities. From reconnecting with friends and teachers to settling into new classes and routines, it was exciting to see our Hawks back on campus and ready for another great year. From our welcome back assembly to Service Day to our Hawks 101 rotations, we spent some time those first few days covering school-wide expectations while also making space for introducing students to their new teachers and classes!

In this edition of the Hawks Happenings newsletter I share information about our upcoming Open House Teacher Meet & Greet, technology based information, opportunities to be involved in our Parent Advisory Council, and much more.

We look forward to showcasing our FFA students (and Art students) this upcoming weekend at the Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days. Hope to see you out there!

Thank you, and if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at raguilar@cpps.org

FFA at the Fair! FFA at the Fair!

Stop by the FFA exhibits at the fair and say hi to our CPHS FFA students!

Come check out College Place FFA at the Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days! This year, we have 18 FFA members exhibiting livestock across the small animal, goat, lamb, and pig barns.

Our FFA members have been working hard all summer to prepare for fair - waking up early to feed and care for their animals, spending late evenings practicing showmanship, and putting in countless hours to make sure their projects are ready. Fair week is their opportunity to showcase that hard work and dedication.

If you're at the fair, be sure to stroll through the barns and look for the College Place FFA displays and animals! We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and can't wait to see them in the show ring!

Caring for your Chromebook Caring for your Chromebook

Tips for ensuring a successful Chromebook experience

Students have received back in their 1:1 devices for this school year. Our school believes that limiting screen time is important and is intentionally reducing the amount of device necessity in our classrooms during the school day. If you have concerns about the amount of time your student claims to need their device for homework, please feel free to reach out to us!

Below is a informational graphic on some important items related to your students Chromebook.

Qustodio Parent App: Monitor and Control School Chromebooks while at home! Qustodio Parent App: Monitor and Control School Chromebooks while at home!

Parents now have the ability to monitor their student's CPPS devices when they are home!

As CPPS families, you should be receiving, via email later this month, an invitation to sign-up for an app/service called "Qustodio". This service is part of our Technology partnership with the Inter Mountain ESD, and allows families to set controls on their CPPS issued Chromebook device, for home use. You can see what sites they are going to, limit screen time, or shut down a device at a time before the 10:00pm auto end time that we configure with all of our student Chromebooks automatically.

If you have any questions about the Qustodio app, please reach out to their customer support team. Again, the initial invitation email will go out directly to families in the next few weeks.

Parents: How to Add Skyward Notifications Parents: How to Add Skyward Notifications

Skyward Notifications include automatic grade updates sent to your email address weekly!

One of the features of parent access in Skyward is the ability to receive weekly auto-generated Skyward email reports that include your student's grades. The video linked below helps guide you through the process for setting that up. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Assistant Principal, Ambra Bryant.

Teacher Shout-Out! Teacher Shout-Out!

Coach Brady Svilich now a full time Hawks teacher!

This month's instructional shout-out goes out to Mr. Brady Svilich! Mr. Svilich is teaching CiHS Personal Finance, ASB/Leadership, and Algebra II. When not teaching in the classroom, Mr. Svilich is also coaching Hawks softball, and was mostly teaching at Sager Middle School last year.

1. What do you love most about teaching Math, ASB, and/or Personal Finance at CPHS?

I enjoy getting to teach students things that actually connect to their everyday lives. Whether it's helping a student understand a math concept, watching ASB students turn an idea into something the whole school gets excited about, or seeing a student realize that personal finance is something they can actually understand and control, I enjoy those moments when things click.

2. What is one thing you hope all students leave your class with?

I hope they leave knowing that they are more capable than they sometimes think they are. I don't expect every student to love math, remember every financial formula, or become and ASB superstar. But I do want them to leave with the confidence to figure things out, ask questions, make mistakes, and keep going when something doesn't come easily.

Thank you Mr. Svilich for being a positive, team-focused member of our Hawks community!

This short 20 minute survey will be conducted in Hawk Time, with our first scheduled fall Panorama survey set for Tuesday, Sept. 8th. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.

Our GESA High School Credit Union branch manager, Brandon Moreno, has been hard at work making sure our CPHS students are learning about the opportunities available to them by opening a GESA Credit Union account. This summer, CPHS received a cheque for $8,717. These funds help cover costs associated with J Term while also providing our students an opportunity to learn about finance and banking with in high school! Thank you GESA!
