In October 2025, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), an annual recognition of the positive impact of people with disabilities in the American workforce. This yearly event began in 1945 as a weeklong national observance of the contributions of people with physical disabilities. In 1988, Congress designated the commemoration as NDEAM, which then evolved to acknowledge the importance of increasing opportunities for people with disabilities, including those with mental health conditions and other nonobvious disabilities, in the workforce. In 2001, ODEP was created and entrusted to administer NDEAM, including the selection and promotion of its annual theme. Click here to view a video.

Interested in Volunteering for Lunch and/or Recess at the Landing?

We appreciate all of our Parent volunteers at the Landing! Please sign up to volunteer at lunch and/or recess by clicking here. Here is the Waters Landing Elementary School Volunteer Handbook. Please review it prior to volunteering at the Landing. Make sure you have done all that is outlined on the MCPS website prior to coming to school to volunteer. Always bring your state identification when you come to volunteer at school. You will not be allowed to volunteer without it.

Parent Volunteer Training starts next week!

If you plan to volunteer at the Landing this year, please plan to attend one of the Parent Volunteer trainings listed below:

  • Monday, October 6, 2025, 6:30pm (PreK-Grade 2)
  • Monday, October 13, 2025, 9:30am (Grades 3-5)

While the trainings have been split up by grade level, if you have more than one student at the Landing you only need to attend one training. Please attend when your schedule allows, regardless of the grade levels of your students. If you have any questions, please contact Melisha_L_Creef@mcpsmd.org or Shanique_V_Moore@mcpsmd.org, our Community School Liaison and Family Engagement Specialist.

Mother Figure Monday and Father FIgure Friday start this month

Mother FIgure Monday (MFM) and Father Figure Friday (FFF) are days that moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles or any significant figure in a student's life can come experience school with their student. This is an opportunity to see what your child does in school. You can come at any time and stay as long as your schedule allows. Please bring a state-issued photo ID in order to sign in. You will not be allowed to go into the classrooms if you do not have an ID. Please sign up by clicking one of the links below. Please only sign up for October now, although all of the dates are listed in the form.

  • October Mother Figure Monday Sign-up (10/13/25)
  • October Father Figure Friday Sign-up (10/10/25)

Math Instruction Update

Providing high quality math instruction for our students is important for all of our Waters Landing Elementary students. We want each student to be given what they need to grow as a math student. As a result, some students may be provided with small group instruction outside of the grade level math block to ensure we are meeting each of their needs. These blocks will be around 15-20 minutes. These groups will be flexible and can change based on needs. Please reach out to your child’s math teacher or Kevin Sandell with any questions.

Now You Know: How to Update Your Contact Info in ParentVUE

Keeping your contact information up-to-date is one of the most important ways to stay connected with your child’s school. From sharing classroom updates to reaching you quickly in an emergency, your school and the school system rely on the information you provide. That’s why every year, families are asked to verify their contact and emergency information through the Annual Verification Process. Read more.
