Kindergarten: Mrs. Hernandez and Mrs. Moore
Since it is getting colder outside, please make sure your student is dressed appropriately. Make sure they have a coat. As long as the wind chill is above 20 degrees we will still go outside for recess. In the classroom they may wear a light jacket or sweatshirt if they are cool. They may not wear their big coat in the classroom.
In math we will begin learning about flat and solid shapes and their attributes. We will also continue to work on numbers to 10.
Continue practicing the alphabet and sight word flashcards, as well as reading the books.

In reading, students are learning all about text features in a story to help them comprehend. Students are learning about two different books and how one story is an informational text and another text. The students are learning about Table of Contents, Bold words, Illustrations vs. Pictures, as well as main topic and details.
For math, we are learning about place value in addition and subtraction up to 20. The students will be learning that 15 is the same as 1 ten and 5 ones. Students are also learning how to read a story problem and then to use the information to draw the problem and to apply a number sentence to solve the problem. In math, please continue counting with your child up to 150. It is very important that your child can also name any number in isolation, in example, 110, 84, 102, and etc.
During Social Studies, the students are learning how to read a map. The students will learn how to identify a compass rose and tell directions using a map. The class has also been learning about a city and a town and how they are alike and different.
Thank you for helping us with your child’s learning. Continue to work on sight words and to read every day for 15 – 20 minutes a day. We truly appreciate all your help!

In Reading, we will continue learning how to decode words, read contractions, plurals, and words with the r-controlled vowel teams er, ir, and ur.
We have two new stories this month "Money Matters" and "I Wanna Iguana". During this Module, students will be able to explain how people make choices based on needs, wants, and available resources.
In Math, we will be learning how the addition and subtraction algorithm relates to place value and how to use mental math strategies to add and subtract two and three-digit numbers with or without bundling or unbundling a ten.
Please read every night with your child and practice math facts for fluency!

Greetings 3rd Grade Families & Friends,
Thank you for allowing us to participate in your students’ day! We are very thankful to work with each student and share progress about their academic, social, and emotional goals! We thank you for attending your conference to show your student that we are a team to assist them in their success.
Since we have started Quarter 2, the expectations for students to become more responsible have increased. By now, your student should have their homework routine established and they should be automatically telling you about their day. No Excuses!
Remember to please assist your student! Be willing to listen to them read nightly, ask them to skip count for you, and randomly give out addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems for them to solve. Keep their brains going!!
Our ELA focus is continuing with narrative stories. We have an exciting adventure as we assist an author with writing the ending to a story. As we read, we will strive to pay attention to characters, culture, and the communities they represent. As you read with your student at home, please make connections to your unique culture to help your student with their comprehension.
Our Math focus is Module 3. We will continue with multiplication and division, increasing to the 10 times table. Remember to support your student when they practice their math multiplication facts every night.
We hope you enjoy spending time with family and friends over Thanksgiving Break. We are here to support your student and you! Please let us know when you have questions, comments, or concerns. Continue to contact us on Parent Square.
Thank you for being part of our 3rd Grade Family!

Hello 4th Grade Families,
We are excited to welcome a new month full of learning and fun in 4th grade! Your children continue to impress us with their curiosity, effort, and growth each day. Here’s a look at what we’ll be working on this month:
Reading & Writing
In ELA we are moving into Unit 2, Module A, which focuses on narrative texts and tall tales. Students will explore how authors use exaggeration, humor, and imaginative storytelling to teach lessons and entertain readers.
Writing Focus: Narrative Task
Students will write their own tall tale that includes an element of nature and features larger-than-life characters, an exaggerated problem, and a creative, humorous solution. This will be a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and writing skills!
Math – Module 3
In Module 3: Multi-Digit Multiplication and Division, students are learning to multiply and divide large numbers using place value understanding and visual models. This unit is a major focus in 4th grade. We are taking it step by step to ensure students can confidently solve problems and explain their mathematical thinking.
At Home Tip: Practice multiplication facts regularly—it makes a big difference in building confidence with larger numbers!
Science & Social Studies
We will begin the month with Science, focusing on Physical Science – Communicating Using Wave Energy. Students will learn how sound, light, and other types of waves
are used to transfer information.
Later this month, we’ll transition into Social Studies: Kansas History. Students will start exploring the early history of our state and prepare to kick off our Wax Museum Project, which will combine reading, research, and presentation skills
At Home
- Continue reading with your child each evening to build fluency and comprehension.
- Encourage your child to share what they are learning in class—it helps reinforce new knowledge!
- Practice multiplication facts for just a few minutes a day.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. We are so proud of our 4th graders and can’t wait for all the exciting learning ahead this month!
Warmly,
The 4th Grade Team

Dear 5th Grade Families,
Happy November!
Important Announcements
This month in ELA and Social Studies, we will be learning about Native Americans and Explorers. These units are always a big hit with our students, and we can’t wait to dive in!
In Math, we are finishing up multi-digit division and will soon start working with fractions. A gentle reminder: all the math we do in 5th grade is based on our multiplication facts. Please continue to reinforce these at home.
Additional Information
● Homework Reminder: Homework is sent home every week and must be turned in by the due date. This work is vital as it helps your student review what they have learned throughout the year.
● Spelling Words: Spelling words are included in the homework, and a test is given every Friday. Spelling is crucial for your child's reading development, so please encourage your child to study.
● DARE Classes: We will conduct our DARE classes from October 27th to November 7th. This program is an excellent opportunity for our students to learn about making safe and healthy choices.
As always, please feel free to reach out through Parent Square with any questions or concerns.

PE: Ms. Morales and Mr. Navarro
🍂 Finishing the Quarter Strong!
We wrapped up Quarter 1 with lots of fun and learning in PE! Students worked hard to develop their teamwork, coordination, and sportsmanship skills as we explored a variety of activities.
Ending October, our main focus was on Frisbee skills - students learned how to throw, catch, and aim using different techniques while playing cooperative games that encouraged communication and movement. It was great to see everyone improving their accuracy and having fun together!
A Look Ahead: November in PE
As we move into November, we’re excited to start our Bowling Unit! Students will practice rolling techniques, aiming, and control while learning about scoring and teamwork. This is a fun way to build hand-eye coordination, balance, and focus - all important parts of physical development.
We’ll also continue working on grade-level motor skills across all classes, including running, jumping, skipping, and throwing - helping every student strengthen their locomotor and manipulative skills in fun, engaging ways.
🌟 PE Highlights
- Building confidence through movement
- Encouraging teamwork and positive sportsmanship
- Practicing safe and responsible play
- Celebrating effort, not just results!
💪 Keep Moving at Home!
Encourage your child to stay active outside of school by playing catch, riding a bike, or simply taking family walks. Every little bit of movement helps build healthy habits that last a lifetime!
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students stay active, healthy, and confident through PE!

Reading at Home
20 minutes a day can help your child develop key reading skills.
Here are six strategies you can use at home to build a better reader.
- Create reading rituals and read together every day.
- Talk about the pictures and ask questions.
- Share different kinds of books.
- Read with expression. Use silly voices to make the characters come alive!
- Help your child find words he/she knows as you read.
- Read your child’s favorite books again and again!
Counselor's Corner: Mrs. Stone
During counseling in November, we will start with personal safety, feelings, growth mindset, empathy, and gratitude, some of the most essential life skills. We will begin by trusting your uncomfortable feelings and letting an adult you trust know about them. Conflict is a fact of life, and learning how to handle it is essential. If your student shows empathy and care for others, you know they will not always get into trouble. Please support us as we work on this skill by pointing out times when they are doing this in your presence. Finally, gratitude helps lessen anxiety and raise the happiness your student experiences. Hearing what you teach at home, reinforced at school, strengthens their experiences.
This time of year, we want to remind you to send your students in layers, cooler clothes for when they get hot running in PE, and a jacket if they go outside and the weather (Kansas weather can go from hot to cold on the same day) changes unexpectedly. I have last year's unclaimed jackets, and they can take them in a pinch. They will need to keep those so as not to spread illnesses. Also, we have sources for heavy coats if there are financial difficulties.
Finally, I want to thank those of you who attended this first round of parent-teacher conferences. Your attendance helps us better meet your children’s needs. Communication and teamwork support students in all they do.
