Vision and Hearing Screenings
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The Illinois Department of Public Health mandates that children at a specific age and grade level receive vision and hearing screenings from a certified technician. The children in the following categories are required by law to be screened: Pre-K through 3rd grade, 8th grade, students new to the district, students specifically referred by a teacher, and students receiving special education services. Screenings at both Churchill School and Willow School will begin soon. If the screening technician determines that your child may have a vision or hearing problem which needs further evaluation, you will receive a notification letter in the mail regarding the next steps and recommendations.
If you have questions, concerns, or object to these screenings for religious reasons, please contact your child's school nurse.
Thank you,
Gail Straney RN, NCSN

Meet Our Occupational Therapist Assistant
Hi Bulldog Families,
My name is Amanda Krug (Ms. K), and I am so excited to be serving as the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) here at Winston Churchill. I currently live in Manhattan, Illinois with my husband, Bill, of 15 years; our two kids, Nolan (12) and Reagan (9); and our 3 dogs, Jack, Kacey and Remy. They keep me on my toes! I graduated from Lewis University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and from South Suburban Community College in 2020 with an Associate of Applied Science - Occupational Therapy Assistant.
I first discovered occupational therapy when my own child needed it. Being so involved in his outpatient sessions, I quickly saw how much OT could help children succeed and gain confidence. That experience inspired me to go back to school and become an OTA.
In schools, occupational therapy helps students build the skills they need to be successful in learning, playing, and growing every day. OT focuses on supporting children in areas such as handwriting, fine motor skills, sensory processing, regulation, attention, and building independence. Our goal is to give students the tools and strategies they need to participate fully in school activities and to feel confident in what they do.
As the OTA, I work closely with the occupational therapist, teachers, staff and families to provide hands-on support that helps students reach their goals. Whether it’s learning to hold a pencil, managing transitions, or developing the coordination needed for classroom tasks, OT is here to make learning accessible, engaging, and fun.
I look forward to an amazing school year together and can’t wait to celebrate your child’s growth along the way!

PBIS Goal for September: 90% Attendance!
Our PBIS goal for the month of September is for 90% of all students to attend school regularly. If we meet this goal, all students will earn a fun reward; music during lunch!
Let’s work together to make it happen! Please review the lesson below to help reinforce the importance of attendance and encourage students to be here every day.
